Naeko Miike

Overview

Naeko Miike is a character in the manga and anime series Detective Conan. Originally stationed at the Haido Police Station, she transferred to the Traffic Division of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, where she serves as a female officer patrolling alongside her senior colleague Yumi Miyamoto. She is a childhood friend and the initial love interest of Detective Kazunobu Chiba, whom she knew back during their days at Teitan Elementary School. Following a long period of mutual unrequited feelings and missed opportunities, the two eventually confess their feelings and become a romantic couple.

Appearance

She has a petite build and a youthful baby face. Her long black or brown hair is styled into low twin-tails secured below her ears, with bangs falling between her eyes, and her eyes are blue. While on duty, she wears a female traffic police officer uniform featuring a police hat, blue jacket, and matching pencil skirt over a collared shirt with a black necktie, along with black pantyhose and white gloves. Her outfit is completed with a police badge, breast pocket, aiguillette, armband, and a whistle worn around her neck.

Personality

While she displayed tsundere traits during her childhood, she is inherently earnest and devoted. Her affection for Kazunobu Chiba stems not from his physical appearance, but from his sincere and gentle character. She shows a cute, somewhat child-like possessiveness; after secretly helping him succeed on a diet out of concern for his health, she panicked when his new handsome look attracted other female officers, prompting her to immediately cause a rebound with homemade treats. She interacts warmly and pleasantly with those around her, though she is notoriously tone-deaf when it comes to singing.

Abilities

She possesses essential skills for her police duties. She demonstrates outstanding driving ability when operating her mini patrol car, capable of navigating through narrow and winding residential streets with precision during pursuits. In addition to her driving talent, she is trained in martial arts for self-defense and suspect apprehension, capable of executing a clean judo shoulder throw to take down criminals.

Background

While attending Teitan Elementary School, she developed a crush on Kazunobu Chiba after he reprimanded her for attempting to cross against a red light. Although their feelings became mutual, she was forced to transfer during the summer of her sixth-grade year, leaving behind a recorded video response to his love letter at the school. After growing up and becoming a police officer, she moved from the Haido Police Station to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, where she met Chiba once again. Despite working nearby, he failed to recognize her for a long time. However, following a specific incident where she recited their childhood words, he finally remembered her, allowing their long-held feelings to blossom into a relationship.

Relationships

Kazunobu Chiba is her former elementary school classmate and first love, with whom she eventually formed a romantic relationship after years of mutual devotion. Yumi Miyamoto is her direct superior and senior in the Traffic Division, serving as her constant partner during mini patrol car duties. Sakurako Yonehara, who works as a housekeeper, is her childhood friend who is one year younger than her. Through her work on various cases, she has also developed a friendly rapport with Edogawa Conan, Mori Ran, Yoshida Ayumi, and Kojima Genta.

Trivia

Her name is derived from mystery author Jiro Akagawa's famous novel series Calico Cat Holmes. In her home life, her room shows her endearing side, featuring plush toys of a police car and a teddy bear placed on her bed. In terms of theatrical appearances, she made her film debut in the crossover feature Lupin III vs. Detective Conan: The Movie, and later appeared in canon animated films such as The Scarlet Bullet and The Bride of Halloween.
