Overview
Akitsu Teio is a character appearing in the manga and anime series Umamusume: Cinderella Gray. Known by the epithet Emperor of the Mile, she is an outstanding runner who dominates short- to middle-distance races. As a senior figure relative to Oguri Cap's generation, she commands immense respect across the racing world with her dignified presence and powerful front-running style.
Appearance
Akitsu Teio is a tall horse girl standing 175 cm, featuring reddish-brown hair bound in a ponytail accented by six traditional hairpins, alongside red eyes accented with eyeshadow. Her racing costume is primarily red with green patterns, featuring a draped shoulder haori, chest wrapped in sarashi, a red-and-white rope belt around her waist, paired with hakama and zouri sandals. In daily life she wears traditional Japanese garments and keeps her hairpins even in uniform.
Personality
Exuding a cool and traditional air, Akitsu Teio maintains an imperturbable demeanor under all circumstances. Despite her intimidating, imperial aura, she possesses an unexpectedly playful and slightly eccentric side, readily joining fellow runners Lord Royal and Top Shunbetsu in posing like superhero team members. She is also known to have a strong fondness for sakuramochi.
Abilities
Specializing in front-running and leading tactics, Akitsu Teio is considered a top-tier runner in short- and middle-distance races. She achieved dominant five-length victories in both the Tenno Sho (Autumn) and the Mile Championship, alongside setting a track record victory in the Hakodate Kinen. Although her traditional race attire creates high wind resistance, she runs without hindrance thanks to her inherent Uma-soul power.
Background
Entering the Takarazuka Kinen as the race favorite, Akitsu Teio led the field using her signature front-running strategy, but was ultimately overtaken by Tamamo Cross and finished in second place. This match left a lasting impression on Oguri Cap's development as a racer. Later, she appeared alongside Dicta Striker to spectate the fierce battle between Oguri Cap and Bamboo Memory during the Mile Championship.
Relationships
Lord Royal harbored a one-sided rivalry against Akitsu Teio following the Tenno Sho (Autumn), yet the two share a lighthearted camaraderie, even striking superhero poses alongside Top Shunbetsu. Her defeat by Tamamo Cross in the Takarazuka Kinen served as a significant catalyst for Oguri Cap. She is also seen spectating races alongside Dicta Striker and was studied via photographs by Obey Your Master.
Trivia
Akitsu Teio is based on the real-life racehorse Nippo Teio, known historically as the sire of Haru Urara. For a special alternative cover of Volume 12 of the manga, she was featured prominently with the title logo changed from blue to pink in reference to cherry blossoms, while the back cover depicted her running while eating shrimp tempura.
