Overview
A character from Umamusume Pretty Derby, Mejiro Dober is a horse girl belonging to the prestigious Mejiro family at Tracen Academy. Often perceived by those around her as an aloof and elegant beauty, she is actually quite introverted and struggles with deep-seated self-doubt. Despite her lack of self-confidence, she strives to run with pride worthy of her noble lineage while working to overcome her personal anxieties.
Appearance
She has long dark hair, purple eyes, horse ears, and a horse tail, decorated with hairclips and ribbons, as well as an ornament on her left ear. Her primary racing uniform, Twisted Line, uses a white and green palette with heavy emphasis on white, decorated with frills and a belt wrapped around her left thigh. Her casual attire is white-based and notable for wide shoulder slits. She wears white knee-high socks and short boots on her feet.
Personality
Although she appears to be a cold and distant beauty, she is exceptionally shy and easily flustered. She suffers from a severe complex regarding her own femininity and her male-sounding name, convincing herself that she is neither cute nor girlie. She experiences intense anxiety around men and crowd attention, often freezing when hearing male voices. Consequently, she displays a defensive, tsundere-like front toward male Trainers while acting more open with female Trainers. In private, she enjoys reading and drawing shoujo manga and possesses extensive knowledge about tea and aromatherapy.
Abilities
She excels on turf surfaces and specializes in the betweener running style, unleashing strong late-race acceleration. Her optimal distances cover mile and middle-distance races. Her race achievements include G1 victories in the Hanshin Juvenile Fillies, the Yushun Himba (Oaks), the Shuka Sho, and consecutive titles in the Elizabeth Queen Cup. Statistically, her growth rates heavily favor speed and intelligence.
Background
Born into the renowned Mejiro family, she spent much of her early life kept away in the inner estate due to childhood trauma and extreme social hesitation. Driven by a desire to change herself and uphold her family's honor, she enrolled in Tracen Academy. Following the retirement of her veteran chief trainer, she forged ahead on the Tiara racing path under a new trainer. Overcoming her personal weaknesses, she captured major classic titles including the Oaks and Shuka Sho, as well as back-to-back Elizabeth Queen Cup victories.
Relationships
She deeply respects her senior Air Groove, frequently training alongside her and holding her in high regard. She shares close family bonds with fellow Mejiro members such as Mejiro Ryan and Mejiro Bright. At the academy dorms, her roommate is the energetic Taiki Shuttle, whose cheerful nature helps lift her spirits despite occasional overwhelming moments. Additionally, Daiwa Scarlet holds admiration for her seemingly composed and cool demeanor.
Trivia
Her namesake is the real-life racehorse Mejiro Dober, a five-time G1-winning mare who was the first female horse to win JRA Awards in four consecutive years. The name "Dober" originates from the Doberman dog breed, which inspired details in her ear ornament design. After retiring from breeding, the real horse served as a lead horse guiding young foals at Lake Villa Farm. In fiction, she is surprisingly skilled at playing the piano and teaching children's games.
