Overview
Sounds of Earth is a character from the media franchise Umamusume Pretty Derby, appearing as a student at Tracen Academy and a key member of Team Canopus in the third season of the animated series. Defined by her deep love for music, she approaches horse racing as a grand artistic ensemble performed in harmony with the Earth, treating fellow competitors as musical session partners.
Appearance
She has bright dark bay long hair tied together and draped over her right shoulder, featuring a subtle white highlight near her bangs and a cowlick on top. She possesses blue eyes and wears an imported brand ear cover decorated with a treble clef symbol and a feather ornament on her right ear. Her main racing attire, Ritmo Della Terra, is modeled after medieval European male court clothing, with musical scores printed along the coat's hem. Her casual clothing consists of an elegant pant style adorned with a chest brooch and black ribbon.
Personality
She has a passionate, romantic personality and frequently incorporates Italian musical terminology into her distinctive manner of speaking. Rather than focusing solely on victory, she prioritizes whether a race has produced a beautiful sound and shared emotional resonance among all participants and spectators. Highly sensitive to others' emotions, she willingly offers comfort to those in distress, though her intense and physically close style of affection can overwhelm others. Having grown up with housekeepers, she lacks domestic skills, leaving her room messy and relying heavily on convenience foods. She enjoys dogwood flowers and soy milk, but dislikes wasabi and artificial sweeteners.
Abilities
She possesses exceptional musical talents, playing the violin, grand piano, and concertina at an advanced level, alongside singing while accompanying herself and instructing others. Prior to races, she performs air-violin routines and has used a button-operated violin-shaped music player. On the turf, she excels in medium- and long-distance races using betweener or leader tactical styles. Additional specialized skills include guest escorting and the maintenance of silverware.
Background
She grew up surrounded by music due to her musician mother and orchestra background. Her design is inspired by the real-life thoroughbred Sounds of Earth (2011–2023), renowned as a silver collector who achieved seven second-place finishes in graded races while holding the prize money record for non-graded stakes winners. Within the franchise, she joined Team Canopus as a new member in the third season of the anime series, later becoming available as a support card and playable character in the mobile game.
Relationships
She shares a strong emotional and intuitive bond with Neo Universe, who represents her real-life sire, communicating smoothly through their distinct vocabularies. She maintains a close friendship with her roommate Victoire Pisa, another progeny of Neo Universe, with whom she plans musical gifts for their common predecessor. At Tracen Academy, she collaborates with Team Canopus teammates Nice Nature, Twin Turbo, Ikuno Dictus, Matikanetannhauser, and Royce and Royce, and has performed musical duets with Satono Crown.
Trivia
When composing music, she keeps a globe nearby for inspiration and writes letters using scented stationary. Whenever she feels down, she resets her mood by playing Beethoven's Symphony No. 5. Her smartphone wallpaper features an image of three red roses. Upon unlocking her in the mobile game, a custom violin arrangement of the main theme Umapyoi Densetsu plays during her acquisition scene.
