Overview

Emilia is the main heroine of Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World. She is a half-elf girl who stands as one of the royal candidates vying for the throne of the Dragon Kingdom of Lugunica. Accompanied by her feline high spirit familiar, Puck, she faces deep-seated prejudice due to her resemblance to the feared Witch of Envy. Despite these hardships, she strives earnestly toward her goals with unwavering resolve.

Appearance

Emilia is a half-elf with long waist-length silver hair styled in a low-tied gather with a crown braid, accented by blunt front bangs. Her hair is decorated with a white rose flower ornament, a purple cross-shaped hairpin, and a purple ribbon. She possesses striking violet-purple eyes with bright pupils and distinctively pointed ears. Her attire consists of a white-based short dress featuring bare shoulders, detached sleeves, and a detached collar bearing a green gemstone, paired with a white pleated miniskirt beneath and white thigh-high boots.

Personality

Emilia possesses a deeply compassionate and caring nature, fundamentally unable to turn a blind eye to those in trouble. However, she has a habit of denying her selflessness, insisting that her help is merely a personal whim and attempting to present herself as a pragmatic realist. Having lived in isolation for a long time, she is naive about societal norms and romantic feelings, displaying an innocent and earnest demeanor. She also has a peculiar trait of using outdated, old-fashioned slang in her speech. Around her familiar Puck, whom she regards as family, she relaxes and reveals a child-like, sweet side.

Abilities

Emilia commands thermal magic to manipulate ice and harnesses spirit arts through her covenant with the great spirit Puck. Her techniques include Icicle Line, which creates an ice barrier to rain down constructed ice weapons from all directions, Ice Brand Arts, which materializes various weapons or tools out of ice, and Cocytus, a spell that seals foes in icy prisons. Despite her delicate appearance, she possesses exceptional physical agility and hand-to-hand combat proficiency. In cross-over appearances, she also demonstrates supportive magic such as healing allies, bolstering defenses, and boosting magical offense.

Background

In her childhood, Emilia lived peacefully in the Elior Forest under the care of her aunt Fortuna and Petelgeuse Romanee-Conti. However, a tragic attack by Pandora, the Witch of Vainglory, drove her magical powers out of control, freezing the entire village along with herself in ice for approximately a century. Consequently, despite being over one hundred years old chronologically, her physical and mental ages remain much younger. After thawing, she set out to enter the royal selection of Lugunica, driven by the goal of obtaining the Dragon's Blood to restore her frozen homeland and its people.

Relationships

Emilia shares a powerful bond with Natsuki Subaru, who fell in love with her after their initial encounter in the capital and constantly supports her journey. Her spirit familiar Puck serves as a surrogate father figure, managing her daily appearance and holding her complete trust. In her past, she was raised with warmth by her aunt Fortuna and Petelgeuse. Within the Roswaal L. Mathers estate, she resides alongside allies such as the maids Rem and Ram, as well as Beatrice, who together support her candidacy in the royal selection.

Trivia

According to the original author, her birthday of September 23 was chosen to match that of musician Koshi Inaba. While she claims talent in cooking, stone stacking, and neat handwriting, her aptitude for singing and the arts is notoriously catastrophic. Emilia frequently appears in crossover titles such as Isekai Quartet, where she is elected as the class representative and tries her best to foster harmony among her classmates from different worlds.
