A major supporting character in Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World. Serving in the Royal Guard of the Kingdom of Lugnica, he holds the prestigious title of the "Finest Knight." As the primary knight pledged to royal candidate Anastasia Hoshin, he is renowned for his exceptional combination of swordsmanship, mastery over multiple magical arts, and strict adherence to chivalric principles. Though unforgiving toward those who show disrespect for decorum or duty, he is a deeply loyal guardian whose martial prowess and refined manners earn him the widespread trust of his peers and sovereign.

Appearance

He is a handsome young man characterized by sharp, slanted yellow eyes and short purple hair, featuring distinct bangs that hang down between his eyes. Visually, he is defined by his pristine, white-based Royal Guard uniform and formal dress attire, which he routinely wears alongside a cape and white gloves.

Personality

Exuding an aura of elegance and polite restraint, he comes across as a theatrical elite who values etiquette above all else. Beneath his suave exterior, however, he is an intensely hardworking idealist who holds himself and others to rigorous standards of self-discipline. While he takes a stern stance against those who disrespect established order or chivalric traditions, his strict actions are driven by a compassionate and deeply rational mind. He holds an earnest belief in human goodness and harbors a romanticized admiration for historical heroes and knightly values.

Abilities

He possesses the Divine Protection of Gathering Spirits, enabling him to perceive, converse with, and share vision with spirits, while naturally attracting their favor. Contracted with quasi-spirits representing all six elemental attributes—which later mature into full spirits—he seamlessly combines vast magical knowledge with master swordsmanship. His signature original magic sword technique, the Rainbow Sword "Clarista," allows him to imbue his blade with magical attributes, capable of severing non-physical phenomena such as the Unseen Hand. He is also proficient in dragon riding and escort tactics.

Background

Born into the Juukulius line, he lost his father at a young age and was adopted by his uncle, the head of the house. Though initially rebellious during his youth, a pivotal meeting with a young Reinhard van Astrea inspired him to dedicate his life to the ideal of knighthood. Through relentless training, he advanced through the ranks of the Royal Guard to earn the title of the "Finest Knight," eventually becoming the primary knight to royal candidate Anastasia Hoshin. During the initial gathering of the Royal Selection, he publicly beat Natsuki Subaru in a mock duel after Subaru insulted the knights, an act secretly carried out to spare Subaru from lethal punishment by the other guardsmen.

Relationships

He is fiercely loyal to his lord, Anastasia Hoshin, respecting her commercial acumen and vision for the kingdom. His connection with Natsuki Subaru initially began with bitter hostility following their clash at the royal assembly; however, after fighting side-by-side against the White Whale and the Witch Cult, their relationship evolved into one of deep mutual trust and spirited camaraderie. He maintains a long-standing friendship with fellow knight Reinhard van Astrea, who served as his childhood inspiration, and is idolized by his younger brother, Joshua Juukulius. He also shares a close working bond with Felix Argyle.

His philosophical belief that weakness is not something to shamelessly parade around is notably recognized as one of series author Tappei Nagatsuki's favorite personal lines. Beyond his stoic martial duty, he is a dedicated enthusiast of historical knightly lore who takes immense pleasure in researching forgotten ancient magic. When operating undercover alongside Natsuki Subaru during battle operations, he temporarily adopted the alias "Yuri, the wandering mercenary."
