Fortuna

Overview

Fortuna is a supporting character in Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-. An elf who served as the guardian of the mysterious seal hidden in the Elior Forest, she is the paternal aunt and adoptive mother of Emilia. Although deceased long before the main story begins, her influence remains pivotal to Emilia's early life and the tragic origins of Petelgeuse Romanee-Conti.

Appearance

Fortuna is an elf with sharp purple eyes, pointy ears, and short silver hair. Her signature attire features a shirt that leaves her shoulders exposed.

Personality

Warmhearted and deeply affectionate, Fortuna took on the role of a loving mother toward her young niece, Emilia. At the same time, she possessed a stern sense of responsibility as the forest's protector, willing to place herself on the frontlines to defend her family and home.

Abilities

As a powerful magic user, Fortuna commands temperature-altering fire magic, which she wields to create ice walls, icicles, and various other defensive and offensive formations in battle.

Background

Roughly a century before the main events, Fortuna lived peacefully in the Elior Forest, safeguarding its hidden seal while raising Emilia alongside her ally Geuse. Her sanctuary was shattered when the Witch of Vainglory, Pandora, and the Sin Archbishop of Greed, Regulus Corneas, raided the forest. During the conflict, Pandora used her Authority to warp Geuse's perceptions, causing him to accidentally inflict a mortal wound on Fortuna. She died expressing her love for Emilia, a tragic event that triggered the freezing of the Elior Forest and Geuse's descent into madness.

Relationships

She was the paternal aunt and maternal figure to Emilia, who called her mother. She shared a bond of profound trust and subtle romantic affection with Geuse, a moderate member of the Witch Cult. Conversely, Pandora, the Witch of Vainglory, stands as the arch-enemy who orchestrated the destruction of her peaceful life.

Trivia

The flower hair ornament worn by Emilia in the present day is a keepsake left behind by Fortuna. Within the fan community, she was once heavily speculated to share a identity connection with the Sin Archbishop of Wrath, Sirius Romanee-Conti.
