Overview
Roy Alphard is a major antagonist in Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-. He is a Sin Archbishop of the Witch Cult representing Gluttony alongside his brothers. Operating under the self-proclaimed title of Bizarre Eating, he ruthlessly consumes the names and memories of anyone he encounters to satisfy his insatiable appetite.
Appearance
Roy has the gaunt appearance of a boy in his early to mid-teens with green eyes and sharp, jagged teeth. He has long, messy dark brown hair arranged in a braid with center-parted bangs. His attire consists of a green garment featuring exceptionally long sleeves and a long hem reminiscent of traditional Chinese clothing.
Personality
Roy possesses a thoroughly callous and self-centered personality, caring only about his own happiness while ruining the lives of others without remorse. Self-stylized as a indiscriminate eater, he prioritizes quantity and full satiety over the refined quality of his targets, setting him apart from his brother. He habitually uses plural pronouns like we when referring to himself.
Abilities
He wields the Authority of Gluttony, allowing him to devour a victim's name and memory, erasing their existence from others' minds or stealing their life experiences. Through these stolen memories, he gains mastery over their martial techniques, swordsmanship, and magic. In combat, he employs cat claw fingertip weapons and Witch Cult daggers, paired with impressive physical agility.
Background
As a Sin Archbishop of Gluttony, Roy participated in the sudden assault on the sluice city of Priestella, invading city control towers and wreaking havoc on its defenders. Later at the Pleiades Watchtower, his attempt to consume the memories of the legendary Sword Saint Reid Astrea backfired, leaving his mind temporarily overtaken and his physical body severely damaged before being captured.
Relationships
Roy is the brother of Lye Batenkaitos, sharing the same Sin Archbishop position of Gluttony. During his rampage, he devoured both the name and memories of Joshua Juukulius, as well as the name of his older brother Julius Juukulius. He also demonstrates a strange deference toward Capella Emerada Lugunica, whom he addresses as Mama.
Trivia
His surname Alphard is derived from the alpha star of the constellation Hydra. In the animated adaptation, he shares the same voice actor, Kengo Kawanishi, with his brother Lye Batenkaitos.
