Overview

Sekhmet is a character from Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World- who holds the title of the Witch of Sloth among the Witches of Sin. Possessing remarkably long purple hair and extraordinarily pale skin, she is legendary for having chased a dragon beyond the Great Waterfall in pursuit of peace. Having died centuries before the main story, her soul resides in Echidna's spiritual realm. Despite her overwhelming lethargy, she remains one of the most calm and reasonable figures among her peers.

Appearance

Sekhmet appears as a tall woman in her mid-twenties with pale, bluish-white skin and lips, and low-lidded black eyes. She has extraordinarily long reddish-purple hair that covers her entire body and drapes over one eye. She wears a loose black off-shoulder dress featuring side slits, paired with purple thigh-high socks and black boots. Due to her absolute refusal to bathe or change, her black outfit shows clear signs of stains, wear, and loose threads. When resting, she is often almost entirely buried in her own massive volume of hair.

Personality

True to her sin of Sloth, Sekhmet finds almost every action exhausting, even treating breathing as a tiresome chore. She spends nearly all her time lying down, punctuated by heavy sighs during conversation. However, despite her total self-neglect regarding daily hygiene and basic human needs, she is easily the most pragmatic and grounded among the Witches of Sin. She acts without malice, remains level-headed, and gently looks out for younger witches, even if her rare interventions accidentally cause collateral damage.

Abilities

As the bearer of the Witch Factor of Sloth, Sekhmet commands the ability to unleash invisible, catastrophic shockwaves completely without physical movement. Her sheer destructive force allows her to easily overwhelm formidable threats like Satella's shadow or mass-slaughter dangerous mabeasts in a instant. Furthermore, her authority grants her a constitution that entirely eliminates the need for eating, drinking, or excretion, allowing her to stay completely motionless without harm.

Background

Sekhmet was created through unethical experiments by giant kinsfolk seeking to revive their ancestral deity, but was abandoned in the wild upon being deemed a failure. Raised by sheer instinct, she was later captured by men who taught her language, knowledge, and emotion. After mercy-killing her captors out of a strange sense of gratitude, she returned to her homeland and systematically wiped out her entire clan. Seeking absolute tranquility, she eventually drove the Divine Dragon Volcanica to the edges of the world, ultimately falling off the Great Waterfall to her death.

Relationships

Sekhmet shares a close, maternal bond with Typhon, the Witch of Pride, who affectionately calls her mother and helps wipe her skin clean. Her soul is preserved within the tea party created by Echidna, the Witch of Greed. In the past, her fierce battle with the Divine Dragon Volcanica left the legendary dragon with a lingering wariness toward her. She shares no personal connection or relationship with Petelgeuse Romanee-Conti, who later acquired the Sin Archbishop slot of Sloth.

Trivia

Her name originates from Sekhmet, the ancient Egyptian goddess associated with warfare and healing. The author set her birthday as August 13th, a date marking the start of the Japanese Obon holidays, symbolic of a universal desire to avoid work. Despite her refusal to engage in any household chores, the creator noted she surprisingly possesses the underlying temperament of a good spouse.
