Louis Arneb

Overview

Louis Arneb is a major antagonist in Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World-, acting as one of the Sin Archbishops of the Witch Cult representing Gluttony under the specific title of Satiation. She is the younger sister of her fellow Gluttony archbishops, Ley Batenkaitos and Roy Alphard. Lacking a physical vessel in the physical world, she is an incorporeal being confined to the spiritual realm known as the Hall of Memories, leaving her existence largely unknown even among her peers.

Appearance

Louis appears as a young girl around 13 to 14 years old with blue eyes and translucent blonde hair so long that it blankets the floor around her feet. Her physical features include sharp teeth, and her eyes carry a dark expression of madness and resentment. She wears a simple, white, dress-like garment stitched together from thin scraps of cloth.

Personality

In contrast to her high-energy brothers, Louis exhibits a hollow, weary demeanor and converses using plural self-referential pronouns. Having consumed only the best parts of countless stolen memories, she has grown bored with ordinary life experiences and suffers from a deep sense of loneliness, prioritizing who she eats with over what she eats. Beneath her philosophical front lies a thoroughly selfish and ruthless identity, which shatters into total panic when exposed to true terror and suffering.

Abilities

Through the Authority of Gluttony, Louis devours the memories and names of others. While capable of using Lunar Eclipse to extract skills and knowledge, she primarily prefers Solar Eclipse, which allows her to fully recreate the physical body and learned combat abilities of any name consumed. Because her identity is naturally vague, she can freely utilize Solar Eclipse without the risk of personality loss. Additionally, she can split her existence into separate self-replicating entities.

Background

Born into the Hall of Memories without a physical body, Louis grew up trapped in a white void, forming her self-awareness by feeding on the memories brought by her brothers. Growing weary of secondhand experiences, she sought the ultimate controllable life. During the encounters at the Pleiades Watchtower, she targeted Natsuki Subaru, devouring his memories and discovering his Return by Death ability. Attempting to claim it by splitting her consciousness into him, she was forced to experience the agonizing reality of his repeated deaths, which completely broke her mind.

Relationships

Louis addresses her triplet brothers, Ley Batenkaitos and Roy Alphard, as her older brothers. Although she disdains their philosophies on eating, she relies on them to deliver memories and occasionally borrows Ley's physical form to feel the outside world, while her brothers hold a protective affection for her. She developed an intense obsession with Natsuki Subaru after consuming his memories and uncovering his unique ability.

Trivia

Her name is derived from Arneb, the primary star in the constellation Lepus, which translates to 'hare' in Arabic. This naming scheme and her splitting ability conceptually link her to the Great Rabbit, one of the Three Great Mabeasts in the series.
