Overview

Fletchinder is the Ember Pokémon, a dual Fire- and Flying-type introduced in Generation VI's Kalos region within the Pokémon franchise. Serving as the middle evolution stage between Fletchling and Talonflame, it marks the first instance of an early-game avian Pokémon changing its typing upon evolving.

Appearance

Fletchinder is a bird Pokémon featuring a blend of bright orange and dark black plumage. It possesses a sharp black beak, yellow mask-like markings framing its eyes, and a black tail shaped like the fletching of an arrow. Its shiny variant exhibits a noticeably redder body tone.

Personality

Highly territorial by nature, Fletchinder claims a zone spanning several kilometers and aggressively repels any intruders that enter its domain. During hunts, it displays a ruthless instinct by shooting sparks into tall grass to flush out wild bug Pokémon, which it roasts before consuming.

Abilities

An internal flame sac in its abdomen generates heat, warming its body to grant top-tier flight speed among avian species, though ignition takes a moment. It possesses the abilities Flame Body or Gale Wings. In battle, it utilizes moves such as Ember, Aerial Ace, Flare Blitz, and U-turn, though it is highly vulnerable to Rock-type attacks.

Background

Debuting in Pokémon X and Y, Fletchinder later appeared in region ecosystems across Alola, Paldea, and the environs of Lumiose City. In the animated series, it joined Ash Ketchum's team after evolving from Fletchling during an aerial battle. It also features as a core team member under the trainer Y in the Pokémon Adventures manga.

Relationships

Fletchinder evolves from Fletchling and matures into Talonflame. In media depictions, it has served under key trainers including Ash Ketchum in the anime, trial captain Kiawe in the Sun and Moon games, and trainer Y (who nicknames her Fletchinder "Yako-chan") in the Pokémon Adventures comic series.

Trivia

Its English name combines "fletching" (arrow crafting) and "cinder," making it the first Pokémon species name to exceed ten letters in English. Its hunting method reflects real-world raptors in Australia known to use fires to uncover prey. Additionally, Fletchinder appears alongside Deerling on a utility hole cover (Pokéfuta) located in Ikaruga, Nara Prefecture.
