Overview
Introduced in Pokémon X and Y, Florges is a single Fairy-type species categorized as the Garden Pokémon. Functioning as the final evolutionary stage of Flabébé through Floette when exposed to a Shiny Stone, it possesses exceptional special defensive capabilities alongside an elegant visual presentation. Florges plays a central role in tending to botanical sanctuaries and maintaining natural ecosystems across various regions.
Appearance
Florges features a white upper torso and a green lower body flanked by two large leaves. Its head is encircled by a dense bouquet of flowers that appears in five distinct colors: red, yellow, orange, blue, and white, matching its prior evolutionary forms. The floral collar around its neck is separate from its body structure. In its shiny variant, the green portions of its body change to purple regardless of the bloom color.
Personality
Florges generally exhibits a compassionate and gentle temperament, accompanied by the dignified posture of a high-born noble. It tends to act amicably toward humans, often delicately placing a hand over its mouth when expressing joy. However, it displays zero tolerance for those who damage plant life or trespass upon its domain, relentlessly pursuing and punishing intruders without granting forgiveness even if begged for mercy.
Abilities
Belonging solely to the Fairy type, Florges commands the abilities Flower Veil and Symbiosis. It absorbs energy from plants to release powerful petal blizzards or floral beams, while wielding vine whips extended from its head for physical strikes. It possesses one of the highest Special Defense attributes among standard Pokémon along with strong Special Attack stats. White-flowered individuals possess a unique ability to harmonize their energy wavelengths with surrounding flora.
Background
Capably living for several centuries, Florges dedicates its long lifespan to safeguarding botanical gardens. Historical records indicate ancient nobility frequently invited them to cultivate and beautify their estates, shaping the famous floral landscapes of regions such as Kalos. In the wild, they inhabit areas like North Province Area 3 in Paldea. In the animated series, a blue-flowered Florges served as a leader in a wetland after resolving past conflicts.
Relationships
Florges evolves from Floette, which develops from Flabébé. Among trainers, the Kalos region rival Trevor commands an orange-flowered Florges, while the Alfornada Gym Leader Tulip in Paldea utilizes a red-flowered variant as her key battle partner. In the Pocket Monsters Special manga series, Trevor raises a blue-flowered individual that evolves during his travels.
Trivia
The name Florges is believed to combine terms referring to flowers, flora, noble gifts, and gorgeousness. The species consists entirely of female individuals, meaning offspring automatically inherit the flower color and Poké Ball type of the mother. Official regional utility covers featuring Florges have been installed in locations such as Katori City in Chiba Prefecture and Meiwa Town in Mie Prefecture.
