Overview

Mosslax is a unique Snorlax variant appearing in Pokémon Pokopia. Having been asleep for an exceptionally long period, its massive body is completely overgrown with plant life. It serves as a specialized character with distinct mechanics and a unique backstory within the game.

Appearance

Mosslax is covered in thick moss that buries its arms, with a single flower blooming on top of its head. Its body features even denser plant growth than the belly foliage seen on Gigantamax Snorlax, giving it an appearance akin to a Grass-type regional variant.

Personality

Speaking with a distinct rustic first-person pronoun, Mosslax possesses a more aggressive and pugnacious disposition than typical members of its species. Following a severe defeat, it lazily chose to sulk into an extended sleep. It retains a deep fondness for its past days living alongside humans and openly expresses thanks when reminded of that lifestyle. However, it is intensely protective of food, becoming red-faced and highly menacing if anyone attempts to take back an offering.

Abilities

Upon waking, Mosslax accepts food offerings and provides daily bonuses active until 5:00 AM the following morning based on the flavor provided. Plain flavors make it easier to become friends with Pokémon, spicy flavors encourage Pokémon to spawn in uninhabited habitats, and bitter flavors increase the discovery rate of rare items. Astringent flavors boost the chances of Ho-Oh and Lugia appearing, sour flavors improve shop items, and sweet flavors make ancient artifacts like tablets and fossils easier to find. Prepared dishes grant stronger bonuses than raw ingredients.

Background

Mosslax originally lived alongside humans, acting as a town guardian against hostile creatures in exchange for meals. When a cataclysm caused humans to vanish, its regular food supply ceased. Out of frustration, it picked a fight with dangerous Pokémon, suffered a heavy defeat, and was hurled into a rock face. Giving in to annoyance and sheer laziness, it fell into a long slumber right where it landed, becoming completely overgrown with moss over time. It was finally awakened when hit directly by lightning from Raikou.

Relationships

Mosslax harbors fond memories of its past life with humans. It clearly expressed its gratitude toward Ditto when the transformed Pokémon helped recreate aspects of that bygone era. It also maintains indirect connections with Raikou, whose thunder stroke awakened it, as well as Ho-Oh and Lugia, both of which are drawn to its vicinity through specific food offerings.

Trivia

Mosslax never moves on its own, but players can push it around using a Ditto that knows the move Strength. It exhibits no reaction even if pushed into sea water or lava, and its position will not reset even if the game is restarted. On Cloud Island, players can easily build a suitable habitat to invite it, leading to the surreal view of its moss-covered body standing nonchalantly in ordinary surroundings.
