Professor Tangrowth

Overview

Professor Tangrowth is a unique character appearing in Pokémon Pokopia. Having endured a lengthy period of solitude in a desolate world abandoned by humans and Pokémon, he serves as a wise elder who guides the protagonist Ditto by imparting survival skills and proposing efforts to restore and develop the land.

Appearance

Unlike a standard Tangrowth, the vines on his head are white. He wears a pair of cracked round glasses and a disc reminiscent of a TM on his head, while also carrying a walking stick. Portions of his body display white coloring, and he is outfitted with items resembling human tools. He possesses a large physique and is initially seen with a handcart.

Personality

He speaks with the mannerisms of an elderly man and possesses a warm, grandfatherly temperament. Despite enduring extended isolation, he retained a hopeful outlook for the future. Although knowledgeable, his understanding of human artifacts is not entirely complete, allowing him to offer flexible ideas. He is endearingly clumsy, struggling with simple tasks like stacking toy blocks.

Abilities

He possesses the ability to instruct Ditto in survival and living techniques. Additionally, he has appraisal skills that allow him to inspect mysterious items excavated from glowing ground, identifying them as rare furniture or decorative artifacts.

Background

Historical logs suggest he was originally an inquisitive Tangela taken in by a human Pokémon Professor. After living alone in a deserted land, he encountered a shapeshifting Ditto and began guiding it. He adopted the title of Professor after Bulbasaur noted that he radiated the air of a Pokémon researcher.

Relationships

He maintains a deep, caring bond with Ditto, treating the protagonist like a grandchild while sharing survival knowledge and working together on land restoration. Bulbasaur is the figure who inspired his designation as a Professor.

Trivia

The handcart he uses upon his first appearance is known as the Professor's Treasure and can eventually be moved and placed as a furniture item. Standard members of his species also exist elsewhere within the game world separately from him.
