Overview
Adon is a Thai fighter who appears in Capcom's Street Fighter series. First introduced as a non-playable sub-boss in the original Street Fighter, he later became a playable character in the Street Fighter Alpha (Zero) series and Super Street Fighter IV. Formerly the top student of the Muay Thai master Sagat, Adon broke ties with his mentor to prove that Muay Thai is the ultimate martial art, aiming to reach the absolute summit of combat.
Appearance
Adon is a dark-skinned, muscular male athlete. He is characterized by his spiked, orange long hair styled into a ponytail and tied with a headband. He fights bare-chested, wearing hand wraps around his wrists and hands alongside traditional Muay Thai trunks.
Personality
Adon is intensely arrogant, driven by an overwhelming ambition and a massive ego. Driven by his belief that mastering the ultimate martial art elevates him to a godlike status, he openly proclaims himself a god of battle. He holds immense contempt for his former master, Sagat, following Sagat's loss to Ryu, viewing it as a stain on Muay Thai's honor. Despite his harsh words and disrespect toward opponents, he possesses an obsessive dedication to pure strength, refusing to join criminal organizations like Shadaloo.
Abilities
Adon utilizes an agile and acrobatic Muay Thai style focused on high-mobility rushdown techniques. His signature moves, such as the Jaguar Kick, Jaguar Tooth, and Jaguar Revolver, feature unique jumping trajectories that allow him to easily bypass opponent projectiles and strike from unpredictable angles. His strikes possess good reach, allowing him to dominate the screen.
Background
Originally the prized student of Sagat, Adon's admiration turned into bitter hatred when Sagat was defeated by Ryu in the World Warrior tournament. Disgusted by what he perceived as a disgrace to Muay Thai, Adon abandoned his master and sought to claim the title of Muay Thai's true champion for himself. Rejecting recruitment offers from M. Bison's Shadaloo syndicate, Adon traveled the world to prove his ultimate superiority, even seeking to study the Shun Goku Satsu and Satsui no Hado to incorporate their destructive power into his own style.
Relationships
He considers his former master Sagat a target of intense hatred, though he occasionally displays complex, reluctant concern for him. His open contempt for Sagat draws disdain from other martial artists like Ryu, Ken, Guy, Makoto, and Eagle, who criticize his lack of respect for his former teacher. He utterly rejects M. Bison and his criminal empire Shadaloo, looks down on Dan Hibiki as a big-mouthed weakling, and seeks the formidable power of Akuma.
Trivia
Adon is one of the oldest characters in the Street Fighter franchise, having debuted in the very first title. In lore, he is skilled in the Wai Kru, the traditional preparatory dance of Muay Thai. While Sagat's special attacks are themed around tigers, Adon's signature techniques are named after jaguars.
