Overview

Birdie is a combatant from the United Kingdom appearing in the Street Fighter fighting game series. First introduced in the original title, he later returned as a playable character in both the Street Fighter Alpha (ZERO) series and Street Fighter V. Having previously competed across multiple combat sports including boxing and professional wrestling, he eventually transitioned into a rougher street-fighting lifestyle. Over the course of the franchise, his physical appearance, role in the story, and overall temperament have undergone significant evolution.

Appearance

Birdie is a large, dark-skinned man featuring a blonde mohawk with a hole in the middle, along with a beard and mustache. In his earlier appearances he possessed a muscular build, but by Street Fighter V he became noticeably overweight with a prominent belly. His attire includes fingerless gloves, boots, torn pants, a chain necklace, and long chains connected to handcuffs on his wrists.

Personality

Birdie loves beer, beef jerky, and opportunities to make money, while strongly disliking children and the police. Though a capable fighter, he is prone to being driven by immediate desires rather than careful deliberation. Originally portrayed with a rough, low-level villainous edge, his personality softened over time into a somewhat humorous, lighthearted demeanor.

Abilities

Birdie relies on powerful headbutt attacks such as Bull Head and Bull Horn, alongside devastating command grabs. In the original Street Fighter, he possessed an exceptionally damaging Hammer Punch technique. In Street Fighter V, his moveset incorporates eating snacks to build his V-Gauge, as well as unconventional techniques utilizing banana peels, rolling cans, and bubble gum.

Background

After being banished from professional fighting circuits due to his violent tactics, Birdie worked as a pub bouncer before seeking to prove his strength to the crime syndicate Shadaloo. Upon joining, he secretly plotted to take over the organization from M. Bison, though his scheme failed. During his time with Shadaloo, his frequent overeating at the company cafeteria dramatically altered his physique. He eventually defected from the syndicate due to strict uniform rules enforced by F.A.N.G, later taking up residence at Karin Kanzuki's estate after breaking into her property.

Relationships

During his time in Shadaloo, Birdie harbored ambitions to overthrow his leader, M. Bison, while frequently clashing with F.A.N.G over strict dress codes regarding headwear. After abandoning the syndicate, he struck a deal with Karin Kanzuki, agreeing to follow her instructions in exchange for food and shelter as a live-in dependent.

Trivia

Birdie's character design and backstory were substantially revamped between the original Street Fighter and the Street Fighter Alpha series. According to crossover lore, he was formerly tag-team partners with Titan the Great from the Saturday Night Slam Masters (Muscle Bomber) series.
