Overview
Genryuusai Maki, commonly referred to simply as Maki, is a character appearing in Capcom's fighting and action game franchises. Originating in Final Fight 2, she subsequently joined the roster of fighting titles such as Capcom vs. SNK 2 and handheld versions of Street Fighter Alpha 3. Known as a fiery kunoichi and a former biker gang leader, she practices the Bushinryu ninjutsu style while displaying a rebellious, tomboyish brawler personality.
Appearance
Maki is a muscular woman with long blonde hair tied in a high ponytail and brown eyes. She wears a sleeveless red japanese-style outfit that leaves her back exposed, fastened around the waist with a yellow sash. Her attire includes bandages wrapped around her hands and arms, paired with sports sneakers on her feet.
Personality
possessing a fiery, foul-mouthed temperament, Maki detests being treated gently or dealing with tedious matters. Her past as a biker gang leader heavily influences her rough speech and aggressive demeanor. Despite her shinobi training, she often displays an un-ninjalike reluctance to work hard, sometimes trying to shirk matches or pass responsibility to teammates. Deep down, she harbors affection for her fellow disciple Guy, but her headstrong nature prevents her from expressing it honestly, leading her to treat him as a rival instead.
Abilities
Maki integrates the physical martial arts of Bushinryu ninjutsu with traditional tonfa weaponry. Her combat style excels in ground-based engagements, utilizing rapid dashes to execute feints and multi-option follow-up attacks. She possesses high-utility super combos and retains a powerful invulnerable emergency escape technique that consumes a portion of her stamina when activated.
Background
Born as the daughter of 37th Bushinryu grandmaster Genryuusai, Maki trained under the 38th master Zeku alongside her fellow disciple Guy. When the remnants of the Mad Gear gang kidnapped her father and her older sister Rena, she joined forces with Mike Haggar to rescue them in Final Fight 2. In later appearances, she sets out to participate in fighting tournaments, driven by the goal of finding Guy and establishing her claim as the rightful successor of the Bushinryu style.
Relationships
Maki is the daughter of Genryuusai and the younger sister of Rena, who is engaged to Guy. She views Guy as both a childhood crush and a fierce rival. Her martial arts master is Zeku, the 38th Bushinryu leader. She maintains friendly ties with Mike Haggar and Carlos Miyamoto through their joint battle against crime, and has encountered other fighters including Cody Traverse, Rolento, and Sakura Kasugano.
Trivia
Her surname suffered from inconsistent kanji representation in early physical game manuals, but Capcom later officially confirmed the correct kanji spelling for her family name in character reference guides.
