Overview
Cidolfus Telamon, commonly referred to simply as Cid, is a major supporting character in Final Fantasy XVI. Serving as the Dominant of the Eikon Ramuh, he leads an underground organization dedicated to protecting persecuted Bearers and exploited Dominants, working toward a world where people can live and die on their own terms. Alongside his humanitarian efforts, he conducts research into the Blight affecting the continent. After intervening in the conflict at Nisa Cavern, Cid takes Clive Rosfield and Jill Warrick under his wing, becoming an influential mentor figure to them.
Appearance
Cidolfus features short brown hair slicked back and blue eyes. He has noticeable facial hair, including beard stubble and a mustache. His signature attire consists of a jacket paired with black gloves and black pants.
Personality
Cid is a warm, charismatic, and fatherly leader who guides troubled youth with wisdom and patience. Guided by strong moral convictions, he does not hesitate to abandon powerful positions when they conflict with his principles. He maintains an easygoing demeanor, showing unflappable composure in awkward or adult social settings, complemented by a subtle, roguish charm.
Abilities
As the Dominant of Ramuh, Cid can harness lightning magic and transform his body, ranging from semi-primed states to full Eikonic manifestation. However, overusing these powers has exacted a severe physical toll on his body, causing him to cough up blood even after brief applications of his abilities.
Background
Hailing from the Thunder tribe of Waloed, Cid served as the Lord Commander of Waloed under King Barnabas Tharmr. Suspecting the king's motives, he deserted the kingdom and established a safe haven for oppressed Bearers. During a mission to rescue Jill, he encountered Clive Rosfield and brought both of them into his fold. After helping Clive overcome severe emotional trauma, Cid initiated his grand plan to destroy the Mothercrystals. He successfully infiltrated Drake's Head in Sanbreque and destroyed its core, but sustained fatal injuries from a mysterious entity, bestowing his mission and title of 'Cid' to Clive before passing away.
Relationships
Cid serves as a crucial mentor and father figure to Clive Rosfield and Jill Warrick. He previously saved the life of his former subordinate Benedikta Harman, though she fiercely targeted him following his desertion. King Barnabas Tharmr was his former sovereign. He has an adopted daughter named Mid, whom he sent to study mechanics, and maintains a close acquaintance with the brothel madam Isabela.
Trivia
After his death, he became retroactively labeled as the outlaw 'Cid the Outlaw' for destroying a Mothercrystal, a title and moniker later assumed by Clive Rosfield. His full name 'Cidolfus' pays homage to Cidolfus Orlandeau from Final Fantasy Tactics.
