Overview
Freya Crescent is a major playable character in Final Fantasy IX. She is a 21-year-old female Dragoon hailing from the Burmecian kingdom. Accompanying Zidane Tribal and his companions on their journey, she brings a calm and mature presence to the party despite her youth.
Appearance
Freya is a female rat-like demi-human characterized by white fur, long silver hair, and a mouse tail adorned with a ribbon. She wears attire reminiscent of a Red Mage, featuring a prominent hat and a long red coat. She fights armed with a spear.
Personality
Freya speaks with an archaic, elderly tone that contrasts with her age. She possesses a steadfast will and resolute nature as a warrior, yet underneath her composed exterior lies a deeply romantic and sensitive heart. She has a subtle fondess for fashion and accessories.
Abilities
In combat, Freya utilizes the Dragoon's signature Jump ability to strike from above. Her unique Dragon skills include supporting allies with Reis's Wind and delivering heavy physical attacks through Cherry Blossom and Dragon's Crest. When entering Trance, her Jump command transitions into a sustained aerial bombardment, raining spears down on all enemies until the Trance gauge depletes.
Background
Three years prior to the story, Freya left Burmecia to search for her missing lover, Fratley, who had departed the kingdom to challenge powerful warriors. During her travels, she met and befriended Zidane Tribal. After reuniting with him at the Festival of the Hunt in Lindblum, she learns of the attack on her homeland and joins the party to defend her realm and investigate the mastermind behind the war.
Relationships
Freya's journey is heavily driven by her devotion to her lost love, Fratley. She shares a warm, trusting friendship with Zidane Tribal, having formed a bond with him prior to joining the main party's quest.
Trivia
Beyond her original game, Freya makes appearances in spin-off titles including Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia and Final Fantasy Record Keeper.
