Overview
Palom is a black mage appearing in Final Fantasy IV and its sequel, Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. Hailing from the magical nation of Mysidia, he is the twin brother of Porom and joins Cecil Harvey's quest. Despite his young age, he possesses an extraordinary natural talent for black magic.
Appearance
In Final Fantasy IV, Palom has dark brown hair styled in a bob with a long section tied in the back. He wears a green vertically striped outfit accompanied by an orange cape. His eye color varies across media, appearing blue, brown, green, or purple depending on the depiction. In The After Years, he sports green striped trousers paired with a blue robe, accented by accessories at his head and waist.
Personality
As a child, Palom is cheeky, arrogant, and fond of pranks, frequently skipping his training and getting scolded by his sister Porom. By the time of The After Years, he goes through a rebellious phase, often clashing with Porom, but eventually matures into a responsible individual with high ambitions, though he retains his sharp tongue.
Abilities
Palom exhibits rare talent as a black mage, eventually mastering powerful high-tier magic. He can briefly boost his own spellcasting power using his Bluff skill. Additionally, he can combine his magic with his sister Porom to execute Twincast spells, and he is capable of casting petrify magic upon himself.
Background
Training under the Elder of Mysidia, Palom is ordered to accompany and monitor Cecil during his journey to Mt. Ordeals. After witnessing Cecil become a Paladin, he remains with the party until he petrifies himself in Baron Castle to stop a trap and save his allies. He is later cured by the Elder and aids the final battle by sending his prayers to Cecil's group. In The After Years, he is sent to Troia to tutor Leonora in black magic.
Relationships
Palom shares a close bond with his twin sister Porom, despite their frequent bickering. He trains under the Elder of Mysidia. He earns a mutual trust with Cecil Harvey during their travels, and later acts as an instructor in black magic to Leonora, an Epopt from Troia.
Trivia
Original settings list Palom as left-handed, though certain releases portray him holding a rod in his right hand. In the spin-off title Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Dark Lord, he works for the Demon King's army because Porom is taken hostage.
