Overview
Firion is the primary protagonist of Final Fantasy II. Unlike traditional role-playing game heroes born with legendary bloodlines or grand destinies, he is an ordinary young man from the Kingdom of Fynn whose life is shattered by the Palamecian Empire's invasion. Joining the rebel movement under the code word "Wild Rose," he fights to reclaim his homeland and defeat the Emperor. He also represents his home title in the Dissidia Final Fantasy series as a warrior summoned by Cosmos, serving as a steadfast, dependable leader figure among his allies.
Appearance
Firion features silver hair that appears relatively short at the front with a slightly unkempt look, but is actually tied back into a longer ponytail style. He has light brownish eyes and wears a colorful bandana wrapped around his head.
Personality
Firion is a passionate and morally upright warrior driven by a straightforward desire to avenge his fallen home and loved ones. Despite his fierce determination in combat, he is notably innocent and inexperienced when dealing with women, easily becoming flustered or tricked by enemies taking female form. He is earnest, supportive, and acts as a grounding presence for his companions. Beneath his warrior exterior lies a deeply gentle heart, harboring a quiet dream of restoring peace and filling the world with blooming flowers.
Abilities
Firion is designated as a "Weapon Specialist," capable of wielding and mastering virtually any type of arm in battle. He excels primarily in grounded combat, utilizing techniques that force airborne opponents back to the surface and connecting weapon strikes into powerful finisher attacks. While his magical aptitude is secondary, his signature combat abilities include entering an enhanced state where his arsenal gains the properties of the Blood Sword to drain opponent health, as well as unleashing "Fervid Blazer," a multi-weapon and spell combo capped with a volley of thrown arms.
Background
Firion was raised in Fynn alongside his adoptive siblings until the Palamecian Empire launched a devastating surprise invasion, killing his parents and leaving him gravely wounded. Saved by Princess Hilda of the rebel forces, Firion volunteered to take up arms against the empire. Leading a strike team alongside his adoptive sister Maria and friend Guy, he set out to dismantle the imperial army while searching for his missing brother, Leonhart. Retaining the rebel password "Wild Rose" as his guiding light, he persevered through tragic losses to confront the sinister Emperor of Palamecia.
Relationships
Firion shares an inseparable bond with his adoptive sister Maria and companion Guy, who fight by his side as fellow rebels. He remains deeply committed to finding his lost adoptive brother, Leonhart, despite the painful circumstances surrounding their separation. The Emperor of Palamecia serves as his mortal enemy and the architect of his grief. Princess Hilda holds his gratitude for saving his life after the destruction of Fynn. In crossover titles, he forms strong ties with fellow heroes such as Tidus, Cecil Harvey, and Cloud Strife, and receives a symbolic wild rose from Laguna Loire.
Trivia
Firion appears in the Magic: The Gathering crossover card set for Final Fantasy under the card name "Firion, Wild Rose Warrior." Due to his naive interactions with women and notably relaxed line when finding free items during his journey, he has earned a long-standing reputation among players as an endearingly earnest and somewhat dense protagonist.
