Appearance
Varis possesses the distinctive Garlean third eye on his forehead. He has long, wavy blonde hair with parted bangs, tied in a low ponytail and draped over his shoulder. His eyes are depicted with blue, yellow, or orange tones, and he features a distinct facial mark. Visually imposing, he dons massive, ornate imperial plate armor and carries an oversized gunblade.
Personality
Varis is a cold, pragmatic figure who firmly believes humanity must control its own destiny rather than succumb to the sway of immortal manipulators or divine entities. Driven by an intense hatred for Primals and the shadowy influence of the Ascians, he pursues his goals with ruthless determination. He remains completely unsentimental toward his own lineage, showing no affection for his family members.
Abilities
Varis wields absolute political and military authority over the Garlean Empire, demonstrating strong command capabilities. In personal combat, he is a formidable force who skillfully wields a giant gunblade in battle.
Background
Ascending to the throne following the death of the founding emperor, Varis took command of the Garlean Empire as its second ruler. To eradicate the threat of Primals that imperil the star, he proved willing to allow the devastation of Eorzea if it meant starving the divine beings of their influence. Driven by his desire to break humanity free from puppeteers, he even contemplated alliances with past enemies.
Relationships
Solus zos Galvus, the founding emperor, is his grandfather, toward whom Varis harbored deeply complex feelings and zero reverence. He similarly holds no parental affection for his son, Zenos yae Galvus, remaining detached from Zenos's actions and fate. He stands in absolute opposition to the Ascians, despising their urge to control human affairs.
Trivia
His uncompromising stance during diplomatic negotiations and his overwhelming physical aura have made him a memorable antagonist among the game's community.
