Overview
Porom is a character from Square's role-playing game Final Fantasy IV and its sequel Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. A skilled White Mage hailing from the magical nation of Mysidia, she serves as a playable party member alongside her twin brother, Palom.
Appearance
In Final Fantasy IV, Porom appears as a five-year-old child wearing a ponytailed hairstyle, a green cape, and an orange vertical-striped outfit. Her eye color varies across adaptations, appearing blue in original sprites, brown in the 3D remake, green in mobile releases, and teal-blue in sequel artwork. In Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, she grows into a young woman with long pink hair—which she dyes herself—and wears translucent pink garments.
Personality
Unlike her mischievous brother, Porom is polite, well-behaved, and speaks with a maturity beyond her years. She constantly keeps Palom in line, often reprimanding him for slacking off. Beneath her prim demeanor lies a cunning side, demonstrated by her ability to fake tears in battle. She develops a warm, sibling-like affection for Cecil Harvey during their travels. In her older years, her sharp tongue toward her brother softens into deep care and worry.
Abilities
As a White Mage, Porom specializes in restorative and supportive magic, learning high-level spells like Holy earlier than other casters. She possesses the unique command Fake Tears (originally Cry) to disorient enemies and can cast powerful Twincast magic in tandem with her twin brother. In the sequel, her unique command changes to Pray. She is right-handed.
Background
Under the guidance of the Mysidian elder, Porom and her brother were assigned to accompany and monitor Cecil Harvey on Mount Ordeals. After witnessing his growth, she chose to stay by his side. When trapped by crushing walls in Baron Castle, she and Palom willingly petrified themselves using Break to save their companions. She was later restored by the elder and assisted in the final conflict. In the sequel, she continues her training toward becoming a sage while managing the heavy troubles of her homeland.
Relationships
Palom is her twin brother and constant companion, with whom she shares an inseparable bond despite their frequent bickering. She deeply respects the Elder of Mysidia as both a mentor and father figure. While initially watchful of Cecil Harvey, she eventually grew to view him as a dear elder brother. In the sequel, she also forms a complex relationship with Kain Highwind.
Trivia
In the Nintendo DS remake of Final Fantasy IV, Porom and her brother Palom are both voiced by Rie Kugimiya in Japanese. The English spelling of their names (Porom and Palom) corresponds to their right-handed and left-handed traits respectively.
