Appearance
A 29-year-old male Elezen characterized by white hair, yellow eyes, and pointed ears. Initially, he conceals his facial features behind a face veil and goggles paired with a brown cowl. In later chapters, he reveals his face entirely and wears an array of outfits including armlets, black robes, cold-weather clothing, and starry white attire.
Personality
Urianger speaks in an archaic, highly poetic style that often makes simple matters sound convoluted, though he quickly grows concise under pressure. A pragmatist who prioritizes ultimate results, he is willing to conceal critical plans from his allies if necessary, yet acts out of deep compassion. He is vulnerable to the antics of his childhood friend Moenbryda and exhibits a idiosyncratic form of logic, such as inventing a water-walking spell to avoid swimming.
Abilities
Originally fighting as an Arcanist, Urianger later adopts the Astrologian job after honing the stargazing arts of Sharlayan. He possesses vast knowledge of aetherology and ancient texts, creating a modified Ether Jammer and White Auracite to seal Ascians, while helping design the Soul Syphon. Additionally, he successfully devises and casts a custom magic spell that allows him to walk on water.
Background
Hailing from Sharlayan, Urianger initially appears predicting the Seventh Umbral Calamity before settling into the Solar to aid the Scions. During the crisis involving the First World and the Warriors of Darkness, he accepts difficult secret roles behind the scenes to preserve the balance of the star. In Endwalker, he returns to Sharlayan, travels to Thavnair, and meets Moenbryda's parents, bringing long-awaited closure to his internal guilt.
Relationships
He serves as a protective mentor to Alphinaud and Alisaie, the grandchildren of his late teacher Louisoix. He shares a deep emotional bond with his childhood friend Moenbryda, and eventually finds emotional peace upon reuniting with her parents, Wilfsunn and Bloewyda. He works alongside long-time colleagues Thancred and Y'shtola, and secretly partners with the Crystal Exarch during his time in the First.
Trivia
He is a terrible swimmer who unironically prefers inventing a spell to walk across water over learning to swim. He is notoriously susceptible to extreme aether sickness from experimental Aetherytes—once collapsing into a crouched posture on the ground—and was once spotted washing ashore behind a rock following a major battle.
