Overview

Elidibus is a prominent antagonist in Final Fantasy XIV and a key leader among the Ascians. Holding the position of Emissary within the Convocation of Fourteen, he distinguishes himself from his peers by wearing distinctive white robes. As one of the three unsundered Ascians alongside Lahabrea and Emet-Selch, he works across realms to maintain the balance between Light and Dark, seeking the restoration of Zodiark and the original world. Prior to the Sundering, his true name was Themis.

Appearance

In his Ascian persona, Elidibus wears hooded white robes with a red mask and bears the beast seal of Zodiark, Keeper of Precepts. His original form as the ancient Themis features blue eyes, long white hair, and the figure of a young boy. He is capable of possessing physical vessels, occupying the bodies of Zenos yae Galvus and Ardbert. During his final battle as a primal, he takes on the form of the Warrior of Light, outfitted in a horned helmet and blue armor.

Personality

In his youth as an Ancient, Elidibus was earnest, cautious, and steadfastly stubborn, taking great pride in his duties as Emissary and deeply cherishing his colleagues. After sacrificing himself to become Zodiark's core and subsequently separating from it, he lost much of his personal memory, remaining driven solely by his obligation to save his friends. Though capable of calm calculation and strategic dialogue with adversaries, possessing different bodies over time eroded his emotional stability, rendering him increasingly hot-tempered.

Abilities

As an unsundered Ascian, Elidibus possesses immense etheric power. He can inhabit and control human vessels, taking over the physical bodies of Zenos and Ardbert. By projecting illusions of star showers, he induces the awakening of the Echo in others. He absorbs the prayers and desires of those wishing for a hero, using this faith to empower himself and transform into the primal Warrior of Light. Utilizing the Crystal Tower and the Soul Syphon, he summons phantom warriors from parallel reflections to fight on his behalf. Ultimately, he can expend his own soul's ether to activate the Crystal Tower's time-travel mechanism, transporting an individual to the distant past.

Background

Appointed as the youngest member of the Convocation of Fourteen, Elidibus assumed the role of Emissary in ancient times. To avert apocalypse, he offered himself as the central core of Zodiark, but later detached from the deity upon sensing the sorrow of his surviving peers. The separation left his memories fragmented, leaving him guided only by an abstract duty to save his companions. Moving across realms while taking over various bodies, he gathered public prayers to become the primal Warrior of Light, but was defeated and absorbed into the Crystal Tower. Later, his remaining spirit was awakened, expending the last of his existence to send the protagonist back to ancient Elpis.

Relationships

Elidibus shared a deep bond with Emet-Selch and Lahabrea, his fellow unsundered Ascians. Restoring a world where his cherished companions could smile again remained his fundamental motivation even after losing his memories. He served as a mentor to Unukalhai, disclosed hidden truths of the star to Urianger, and interacted with Minfilia without immediate violence. Though he engaged in a fierce duel against the Warrior of Light (known as the Warrior of Darkness in the First), he ultimately entrusted the future of the star to them, giving up his remaining spirit to pave their way.

Trivia

The sigil and visual design elements associated with Elidibus originate from the beast seal of Zodiark, Keeper of Precepts, a Scion of Darkness from Final Fantasy XII. In addition, his transformation into the primal Warrior of Light serves as a direct homage to the design and concept of the protagonist from the original Final Fantasy.
