Yidhari Murphy

Overview

Yidhari Murphy is a playable Ice-attribute character from Zenless Zone Zero, specializing in the Ruin specialty. Associated with the paranormal online community Spook Shack under the handle Strawberry Parfait, she is an Octopus Thiren who operates both as a writer of ghost stories and an active Proxy. Armed with a massive mechanical hammer, she navigates dangerous Hollow environments while dealing with a sensory condition caused by an early Hollow catastrophe. Despite her tragic upbringing, she works alongside her allies to investigate urban anomalies.

Appearance

Yidhari stands 171 cm tall with short blonde hair featuring black highlights and a small beret resting on her head. Her purple eyes feature golden concentric rings inside, paired with gently drooping eyes and a mole near her mouth. She paints her fingernails purple. Her attire consists of an off-shoulder white shirt with detached puffy sleeves and glossy black leather-like shorts, accompanied by torn tights on her right leg. Four octopus tentacles adorned with stickers extend from her waist. She carries a giant boost hammer decorated with the word KRAKEN that takes design cues from a giant squid.

Personality

Yidhari possesses a gentle, soft-spoken demeanor, yet she generally avoids crowds and prefers solitary settings. While her spoken cadence is slow and relaxed, she is remarkably fast when typing in online group messaging, easily maintaining three distinct conversations at once. Due to sensory distortions caused by Hollow exposure, she often feels detached from reality and struggles with feelings of isolation. She holds a deep passion for occult lore and ghost stories, frequently channeling her imagination into writing and discussing urban legends with online peers.

Abilities

As an Ice-attribute Ruin agent, Yidhari trades her current health for increased offensive power. Holding her basic attack fires up her hammer's propulsion system, draining her HP to perform multi-stage spinning strikes. Taking damage during charging reduces incoming impact, while countering incoming strikes unleashes a powerful leap-and-slam counter skill. Her enhanced special skill delivers heavy spinning blows while regaining a portion of her depleted health. Additionally, losing health charges her Decibel meter, enabling her to deploy an Ether Veil and execute a devastating Ultimate that summons icy columns and giant freezing tentacles.

Background

Born into the Murphy family of scientists, Yidhari traveled as a child to the Black Water Base in the Outer Ring where her parents worked. When the Zero Hollow suddenly expanded, she suffered severe Ether erosion. Her mother, Angel Murphy, administered an experimental resistance drug that saved her life but bestowed the side effect of seeing phantom memory remnants within Hollows. Tragically, both her parents perished during the disaster, and Yidhari spent her youth bounced between foster families and hollow-raiders. Eventually joining the online group Spook Shack, she encountered the Proxy Phaethon during an incident involving Hollow illusions, gradually coming to terms with her past and her parents' sacrifice.

Relationships

Her parents, Wieland Murphy and Angel Murphy, were dedicated researchers who sacrificed their lives to protect her during the Black Water Base catastrophe. The Proxy Phaethon plays a pivotal role in her life, helping free her from trapped Hollow memories; notably, Phaethon's eyes are the only ones Yidhari can perceive clearly amid Hollow illusions. Within the Spook Shack, she maintains close friendships with Lucia Elowen, Komano Mato, Fuwa Yuzuha, and Alice Thymefield. Additionally, following the disaster in her youth, she was rescued in the Outer Ring by Pompey.

Trivia

Her first name references Yidhra, the Dream Witch from the Cthulhu Mythos. Her surname, Murphy, derives from an Irish phrase meaning sea warrior and aligns with the concept of Murphy's Law, mirroring the series of unfortunate coincidences in her past. The KRAKEN label on her massive hammer points to the legendary Scandinavian sea monster. Furthermore, she is notable for combining the role of a playable combat agent with that of an active Proxy in the game's setting.
