Overview

Kamanue is a minor antagonist in the manga and anime series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He is a demon who serves directly under Muzan Kibutsuji as a member of the Twelve Kizuki, holding the position of Lower Rank Six, which makes him the lowest-ranked among the elite group. Summoned to the Infinity Castle alongside his peers following the defeat of Lower Rank Five, Rui, Kamanue is best remembered for being the very first victim of Muzan's ruthless purge of the Lower Ranks after his internal thoughts displease his master.

Appearance

Kamanue takes the form of a pale young boy with blue eyes featuring slit pupils, sharp fangs, and no eyebrows, with the kanji for Lower Six engraved in his left eye. His black hair, styled backward with orange-dyed tips, is tied into four small ponytails. A green marking shaped like the letter "エ" is present on his face. Unusually for a demon, he wears Western clothing consisting of a white collared dress shirt and black trousers, layered beneath a haori with spiral designs on its sleeves, while remaining barefoot.

Personality

Kamanue is easygoing and lacks both ambition and a sense of responsibility regarding his position. When faced with harsh criticism, he tends to internalize quiet dissatisfaction rather than reflecting on his shortcomings. Under extreme terror, he breaks down completely, weeping and desperately begging for mercy. He is also notable for addressing his master by his family name rather than his given name.

Abilities

As a member of the Twelve Kizuki holding the rank of Lower Rank Six, Kamanue possesses demonic attributes and physical capabilities superior to those of ordinary demons. However, because his appearance in the story is brief, the canon narrative does not depict his specific Blood Demon Art, combat skills, or unique abilities before his death.

Background

Kamanue joined the Twelve Kizuki as Lower Rank Six, likely filling the vacancy left after Kyogai was demoted. Following the death of Lower Rank Five, Rui, Kamanue was summoned to the Infinity Castle alongside the other Lower Ranks. When Muzan Kibutsuji berated the group for their weakness, Kamanue internally questioned the fairness of the reprimand. Muzan read his thoughts, captured him, and devoured him, making Kamanue the first casualty of Muzan's purge.

Relationships

He serves under Muzan Kibutsuji, whom he distinctively addresses as "Kibutsuji-sama," though Muzan ultimately executes him for his internal complaints. Prior to learning of Rui's death, Kamanue assumed his fellow Lower Rank was simply late to the meeting. He also stepped into the position of Lower Rank Six following the demotion of Kyogai.

Trivia

He is one of the very few demons who addresses Muzan by his surname "Kibutsuji." His outfit is also distinct for combining a Western dress shirt with traditional Japanese outerwear. Fans often note that his facial markings resemble historical marks given to criminals. In the spin-off Kimetsu Gakuen!, he appears as an employee in Muzan's office who gets dramatically punished for his noisy behavior.
