Overview

Tokitou Muichirou is a prominent character in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, serving as the Mist Hashira within the Demon Slayer Corps. Renowned as a prodigy, he achieved the elite rank of Hashira just two months after taking up the sword at the young age of fourteen. Initially depicted as detached and emotionless due to severe amnesia caused by a traumatic past, he gradually recovers his memories and displays his true, deeply caring nature through his bonds with comrades. Muichirou plays a vital role in combat against powerful demons using his swift swordsmanship and resolute spirit.

Appearance

Muichirou is a slender young boy with long hair that transitions from black to mint green at the tips, complemented by pale mint-green eyes with hazy pupils. Rather than wearing a standard haori or leg wraps, he wears an oversized, loose-fitting Demon Slayer uniform with wide sleeves and trousers designed to obscure his limb length and movement from opponents. His Nichirin Sword features a black scabbard, green handle lining, a rectangular gold-edged guard, and a white blade inscribed with the slogan to destroy demons. When his Demon Slayer Mark awakens, blue cloud-like patterns appear on his left forehead and right cheek.

Personality

Initially suffering from amnesia, Muichirou appeared aloof, forgetful, and emotionally distant, often lost in thought while staring at the sky. He approached combat with extreme rationality, prioritizing the preservation of lives in the most efficient manner, which sometimes resulted in a blunt and harsh tone. However, this demeanor was rooted in duty rather than malice. After recovering his lost memories, his true personality resurfaced, revealing a compassionate, gentle youth who deeply cares for his comrades. Despite his restored warmth, he harbors intense hatred toward demons who cruelly disrespect human life.

Abilities

Muichirou utilizes Mist Breathing, a style derived from Wind Breathing, and wields a white Nichirin Blade. He commands various forms, including his unique Seventh Form, Obscuring Clouds, which manipulates movement speed to disorient foes like shifting mist. He maintains Total Concentration Breathing Constant at all times. Upon awakening his Demon Slayer Mark, which manifests as blue cloud patterns on his face under extreme heat and heart rates, his physical capabilities increase significantly. Additionally, he can access the Transparent World to perceive internal bodily structures and turn his sword crimson red during high-intensity battles.

Background

Raised in a woodcutter's family in the mountains, Muichirou lost both parents to illness and accident at age ten. He lived with his twin brother, Yuuichirou, who treated him harshly out of a desire to protect him. When a demon attacked their home at age eleven and mortally wounded Yuuichirou, Muichirou was consumed by rage and fought off the demon until sunrise. Before dying, Yuuichirou confessed his true love and belief in his brother's unlimited potential. Rescued by the Ubuyashiki family, Muichirou suffered severe amnesia from the shock, yet his burning inner rage drove him to become a Hashira within two months.

Relationships

Muichirou shared a deep, tragic bond with his twin brother, Yuuichirou, whose final words inspired his inner strength. He holds profound gratitude and loyalty toward Kagaya Ubuyashiki and his wife Amane, who rescued and guided him after his trauma. His interactions with Kamado Tanjirou served as the crucial catalyst for unlocking his lost memories. Within the Demon Slayer Corps, he quietly evaluates his fellow Hashira by comparing their demeanors to various animals, while earning their mutual respect. He also maintains sincere appreciation for his dedicated swordsmiths, Tetsuido and Kanamori.

Trivia

Muichirou is adept at crafts, enjoying paper cutting and origami, and is capable of creating paper airplanes that fly extraordinarily far. His favorite food is boiled radish served with sauce. In the spin-off setting Kimetsu Academy, he is depicted as a second-year middle school student belonging to the Shogi Club, whose near-professional skill at shogi earns him immense popularity among female students.
