Overview
Suma is a supporting character in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. She is a nineteen-year-old former kunoichi and one of the three wives of the Sound Hashira, Tengen Uzui. Alongside her co-wives, Hinatsuru and Makio, she assists her husband on his missions. Despite her shinobi background, she is notoriously timid and prone to comedic tearful outbursts, yet she remains deeply devoted to her family.
Appearance
Suma is a nineteen-year-old woman with long black hair and blue eyes. She has a well-endowed bust and wears a distinctively short blue kimono that leaves her collarbone exposed.
Personality
Suma has a dramatic, cowardly, and crybaby personality, frequently breaking into loud tearful fits whenever she is frightened or overwhelmed. She considers herself weak in combat and panics easily under pressure, though she can occasionally act with surprising boldness. As the youngest of the wives, she addresses her husband and peers politely, yet she is not above yelling at Tengen when frustrated. Additionally, she is attracted to both men and women.
Abilities
Possessing kunoichi training, Suma excels in stealth and intelligence gathering. While undercover at the Tokito House in the Entertainment District, her beauty, poise, and social skills enabled her to quickly attain the elite status of an Oiran. Although she regards her own combat strength as minimal, she demonstrated competent defensive reflexes when attacked in the underground food storehouse. During the Hashira Training, she also contributed by preparing meals for the Demon Slayer Corps members.
Background
Born into a shinobi clan, Suma was not originally chosen to marry Tengen Uzui; her younger sister was the intended bride. However, Suma violently interrupted the arrangements by crashing through a sliding door in tears to volunteer herself instead. During her undercover mission in the Entertainment District, she was captured by the demon Daki and trapped within a cloth sash until Inosuke Hashibira freed her. Following the battle, her dramatic weeping interrupted Tengen's attempt to give his dying words, though he was ultimately saved by Nezuko Kamado's Blood Demon Art. After the final conflict against demons ended, she returned to living a peaceful life alongside her husband and co-wives.
Relationships
Suma is devoted to her husband, Tengen Uzui, who treasures all three of his wives equally. Among the co-wives, she occupies a younger-sister role; she constantly bickers with the hot-tempered Makio, who often slaps or scolds her for her noisiness, while the mild-mannered Hinatsuru serves as the peacemaker between them. She is extremely fond of Nezuko Kamado, weeping with gratitude when Nezuko's flames cured Tengen's poison, and later warmly inviting her to visit the Uzui household after the war.
Trivia
In the second official character popularity poll, Suma placed 70th with 20 votes. The distinct trio dynamic shared by Tengen's wives—Suma's crybaby nature, Makio's short temper, and Hinatsuru's gentle demeanor—mirrors the core personalities of Zenitsu Agatsuma, Inosuke Hashibira, and Tanjiro Kamado respectively. In the official spin-off Kimetsu Gakuen!, she works as a school store clerk who frequently makes mistakes when giving change and has a habit of secretly assigning nicknames to students and staff based on the items they request.
