Overview
Sabito is a supporting character in the manga and anime series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He was a skilled thirteen-year-old swordsman trained by the former Water Hashira, Sakonji Urokodaki, making him a senior fellow disciple to Tanjiro Kamado and Giyu Tomioka. Recognizable by his distinct cheek scar, he tragically lost his life during the Final Selection on Mount Fujikasane. Despite his early demise, his spirit lingered at Mount Sagiri to guide and prepare Tanjiro for his upcoming ordeal.
Appearance
Sabito has medium-length, messy flesh-pink hair that reaches his shoulders with short parted bangs, and grey eyes with rectangular pupils. A large scar spans from the right corner of his mouth across his cheek. He wears a wooden fox mask crafted by Sakonji Urokodaki that features a matching scar carved on its right side. He dresses in traditional clothing including a geometric-patterned haori. His Nichirin sword has a wide blade with a straight temper line, a white hilt wrapping, a bush-warbler green turtle-shell shaped guard, silver fittings, a bright brown pommel, a black scabbard, and a red hanging cord.
Personality
Sabito possesses a fiercely righteous and resolute character, driven by a deep sense of dignity and mental fortitude. He holds high standards for himself and others, openly criticizing any sign of weakness, hesitation, or lack of resolve. Beneath his harsh and demanding exterior lies a profoundly compassionate heart willing to sacrifice everything for others. He is devoted to his master and fellow disciples, using his stern discipline to push those around him past their limits and instill true determination.
Abilities
Despite being only thirteen years old, Sabito was an exceptionally gifted swordsman who mastered Water Breathing. His swordplay was notably fluid and free of wasted movement. In combat, he utilized multiple forms of Water Breathing, including the Third Form: Flowing Dance, Fourth Form: Striking Tide, Sixth Form: Twisting Whirlpool, Eighth Form: Waterfall Basin, and Ninth Form: Splashing Water Flow. During the Final Selection, he demonstrated extraordinary combat prowess by single-handedly defeating almost all the demons on Mount Fujikasane.
Background
After his family was slain by demons, Sabito was orphaned at a young age and taken in by Sakonji Urokodaki. Raised alongside Giyu Tomioka, he trained relentlessly to become a demon slayer. At age thirteen, he entered the Final Selection at Mount Fujikasane. Driven to protect others, he defeated nearly every demon on the mountain by himself, saving all other examinees, including an injured Giyu. However, the relentless combat severely wore down his blade. When he faced the powerful Hand Demon, his exhausted sword snapped upon striking the demon's neck, leading to his fatal defeat as the sole casualty of that year's trial. His spirit later remained at Mount Sagiri to train Tanjiro Kamado.
Relationships
Sabito held profound reverence for his master, Sakonji Urokodaki, viewing him as both a teacher and a savior. He shared an inseparable bond with Giyu Tomioka, his fellow disciple and close friend of the same age; Sabito notably encouraged Giyu after the loss of his sister, and Giyu later wore half of Sabito's patterned fabric on his own haori in his memory. He was also close to Makomo, another orphan raised under Urokodaki's care. Sabito took on the role of a strict mentor to Tanjiro Kamado, pushing him through intense sword training to prevent him from suffering a similar fate.
Trivia
The trial where Sabito guides Tanjiro to slice a massive boulder is believed to be inspired by the "Ittoseki" (One-Sword Rock) legend of the famous swordsman Yagyu Sekishusai. In the official spin-off Kimetsu Academy, he appears as a hot-blooded member of the kendo club alongside his friends. He has also featured in mobile game collaborations such as Kotodaman.
