Overview
Mukago is a character in the manga and anime series Kimetsu no Yaiba. She is a female demon who serves directly under Muzan Kibutsuji as part of his elite Twelve Kizuki, holding the position of Lower Rank Four. As the sole female demon among the Lower Ranks, she appears during a gathering of the lower-ranked Kizuki, where she succumbs to her master's relentless purge of his own forces. Despite her brief appearance, her visual design and memorable demise made a strong impression on fans.
Appearance
Mukago has short white hair with M-shaped bangs and two horns protruding from her head. She possesses pale white skin, missing eyebrows, and small fangs. Her eyes feature red sclera and distinct pupils, with her left eye bearing the kanji characters for Lower Four. Symmetrical red lines mark both of her cheeks. She wears a red kimono with a black fur collar around her neck, and her fingernails are painted red.
Personality
Mukago is defined by her extreme cowardice and strong survival instincts, possessing no desire to oppose those stronger than herself. She holds absolute terror toward Muzan Kibutsuji, becoming paralyzed with fear and trembling uncontrollably in his presence. When confronted about her habits, she easily panics and resorts to tearful, desperate excuses to save herself, demonstrating an inability to maintain composure under severe pressure.
Abilities
As Lower Rank Four of the Twelve Kizuki, Mukago held a high position among standard demons. However, because she was killed before entering combat, her Blood Demon Art and fighting techniques remain entirely unknown. According to official fanbook data, Lower Rank Five, Rui, actually possessed combat capabilities exceeding her own, placing Mukago's functional fighting strength second from the bottom among the Lower Ranks.
Background
Following the defeat of Lower Rank Five, Rui, Mukago was summoned alongside her peers to the Infinity Castle by Muzan Kibutsuji. Failing to recognize Muzan due to his altered female form, she apologized, only to anger him further. When Muzan read her mind and exposed her tendency to run from the Demon Slayer Corps' Hashira, Mukago tearfully denied the accusation and pledged her loyalty. Unmoved by her pleas, Muzan crushed her with tentacles and devoured her. In the spin-off Kimetsu Gakuen!, she works as a staff member at Muzan's office, enduring workplace hardships while remaining surprisingly resilient.
Relationships
Muzan Kibutsuji is Mukago's master and absolute ruler. She harbors profound dread toward him, bowing and apologizing relentlessly to avoid his wrath. However, her desperate declarations of loyalty fail to satisfy Muzan's harsh standards, leading to her swift execution and consumption during his purge of the Lower Ranks.
Trivia
Mukago appears in only 16 panels throughout the original manga. Her name refers to the small aerial tubers produced on yam plant vines and was officially confirmed in the series fanbook. As the only female member of the Lower Ranks, her pitiful plight paired with her attractive design earned her a dedicated fanbase, resulting in a 28th place finish in the first popularity poll and 68th in the second. Her black fur collar reflects a luxury fashion item for the Taisho era.
