Overview

Susamaru is a demon appearing in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba who serves directly under Muzan Kibutsuji. Commonly referred to as the Temari Demon, she attacks her opponents using hardened handballs. Under the delusion that she was a member of the elite Twelve Kizuki due to Muzan's deceit, she displays an innocent yet highly sadistic demeanor, treating bloody fights as mere games. Partnered with her fellow demon Yahaba, she raids the hideout of Tamayo to eliminate Tanjiro Kamado.

Appearance

Susamaru has pale skin and short, two-tone hair that is black at the top with orange tips, featuring short bangs and upturned ends. Her orange eyes contain cat-like slit pupils, and she wears hanging earrings. Her outfit consists of traditional Japanese robes paired with a cloth chest wrap. In serious combat, her demonic flesh manipulation allows her to sprout additional limbs, growing six arms in total.

Personality

Susamaru exhibits a manic and cruel temperament, bursting into high-pitched laughter while treating violent destruction as a playful game. She speaks in an archaic tone, using formal or traditional personal pronouns. She holds deep reverence toward Muzan Kibutsuji, uniquely addressing him by his surname. Despite her lethal ruthlessness, an innocent, childlike nature remains deep within her.

Abilities

Susamaru utilizes her Blood Demon Art, Temari, to continuously generate hard handballs directly from her body. Her thrown projectiles possess devastating kinetic force, capable of smashing solid walls, crushing Yushiro's head, and severing Nezuko's leg. Throwing the balls yields even greater power than kicking them. By growing six arms, she can hurl multiple temari at once, and combining her attacks with Yahaba's vector manipulation allows her to alter their flight paths mid-air.

Background

As a human, Susamaru was a young girl who cherished a handball given to her by her father before she was turned into a demon by Muzan Kibutsuji. Deceived into believing she belonged to the Twelve Kizuki, she killed many people and was dispatched with Yahaba to attack Tamayo's hideout in Asakusa. During the fight against Tanjiro Kamado and his allies, she fell victim to Tamayo's mind-clouding Blood Demon Art, accidentally speaking Muzan Kibutsuji's surname aloud. This triggered Muzan's curse, causing giant demonic arms to burst from her body and destroy her. As her remains dissolved at sunrise, her mind regressed to that of a young child asking to play with her handball.

Relationships

Susamaru held high reverence for Muzan Kibutsuji, unaware that he lied about her status and disposed of her via his curse. She was paired with Yahaba for the Asakusa assault; despite meeting him for the first time right before the attack and arguing due to his fastidious cleanliness, they coordinated their Blood Demon Arts seamlessly. Her opponent Tanjiro Kamado felt pity for her tragic nature, placing a handball next to her dying remains. She also fought fiercely against Nezuko Kamado, Tamayo, and Yushiro.

Trivia

Susamaru is one of the rare demons who refers to her master as Kibutsuji-sama using his surname rather than his given name. Although she demonstrated high tactical synergy with Yahaba, the two had met for the first time shortly before raiding Tamayo's home. In the official spin-off Kimetsu Gakuen!, she is depicted as a third-year high school student and captain of the volleyball club.
