Overview
Ehre is a supporting character in Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. She is a female Second-Class Mage affiliated with the Continental Magic Association who takes part in the First-Class Mage Exam, teaming up with Wirbel and Scharf in the Eighth Party during the first stage. As a brilliant honor student who graduated at the top of her class from the magic academy, she possesses outstanding magical potential, though her lack of real-world battle experience presents a significant challenge.
Appearance
Ehre is a young woman with wavy brown medium-length hair and brown eyes. She wears a long-sleeved white coat trimmed with fur, cinched at the waist with a black belt, paired with a green skirt and long boots. Over this outfit, she drapes a purple cape and holds a magic wand.
Personality
Carrying the pride of a top magic academy graduate, Ehre maintains high self-esteem and prefers refined, structured magical combat. She strongly dislikes crude, deceitful, or brute-force fighting styles, viewing them as lacking dignity. Despite her proper demeanor, she is sensible enough to acknowledge her own shortcomings in actual combat. She sees past Wirbel's rough manner, recognizing his underlying kindness, and trusts him deeply as a leader.
Abilities
Ehre specializes in a spell called Dorgatte, which transforms stones into high-speed projectiles to launch devastating attacks from above. She employs flight magic—a technique adapted by humans from demons—to combat foes mid-air, alongside standard defensive magic that neutralizes incoming attacks by synchronizing with and dispersing their force. Her raw mana capacity is exceptionally high, leading both her teammate Wirbel and her opponent Fern to judge her as the strongest member of her exam party.
Background
During her childhood, Ehre's home village was attacked by demons, but she was rescued by Wirbel and the Northern Magic Squad. After graduating at the top of her magic school class, she traveled to take the First-Class Mage Exam 29 years after the death of Himmel the Hero. In the first phase, her party clashed with Fern's group; Ehre was defeated after exhausting her mana against Fern's relentless assault, though her team ultimately captured a target bird and advanced. She helped clear the second phase's dungeon, but was disqualified in the third phase when Serie detected her fear of Serie's overwhelming mana. After the exam, she introduced her companions to her grandfather before parting ways on their journey toward the imperial capital.
Relationships
Ehre is the granddaughter of Lernen, a veteran First-Class Mage whom she introduces to her team after the test. She holds great trust in her party leader, Wirbel, who saved her village years earlier and demonstrates genuine care beneath his gruff exterior. She works alongside Scharf as a dependable teammate throughout the exams. In her duel against Fern, she suffered a decisive defeat against Fern's continuous basic magic attacks. Finally, during the third stage interview, she was intimidated into disqualification by Serie's immense mana.
Trivia
Her name "Ehre" is derived from the German word for "honor," "self-esteem," or "respect." On the official anime website's character introduction page, her rank was mistakenly printed as a Third-Class Mage, despite her canonical status as a Second-Class Mage in the original manga and promotional media.
