Appearance
Unlike many high-ranking demons who adopt a human-like form, Qual retains a monstrous, giant physique. He has dark skin marked with scars and tattoos, a set of horns, a sharp jagged mouth, and long blonde hair paired with facial hair. His eyes are narrowed with dark pupils. He is bare-chested and wears chains across his body.
Personality
Arrogant and proud of his magical talent, Qual is nevertheless remarkably calm and analytical for a demon. He does not panic when faced with unfamiliar magical advancements; instead, he quickly evaluates the situation, grasps new spell mechanics upon a single glance, and logically adapts his tactics. Unlike typical solitary demons, Qual exhibits a rare degree of social awareness, demonstrated by his concern for the Demon King's status immediately upon waking and his past friendly connection with Macht of El Dorado.

Qual is the creator of Zoltraak, the original piercing magic designed to bypass standard physical and magical defenses with incredible efficiency, speed, and lethal force. In combat, he possesses extraordinary adaptability: upon encountering modern defensive magic, he instantly deciphered its mechanism and high mana cost, replicated the spell himself, and adjusted his offensive output between heavy saturation attacks and concentrated high-power blasts to wear down his opponents.
Background
Centuries ago, Qual slaughtered innumerable mages while serving the Demon King. When Himmel's party confronted him near the Greze Forest, they found his lethal magic impossible to fully overcome and resorted to having Frieren seal him on the spot. During his eighty years of imprisonment, his signature spell was thoroughly analyzed by humanity, giving rise to modern defensive magic and standardized offensive spells. Upon being unsealed by Frieren and Fern, Qual adapted to the new era's magic with alarming speed, but was ultimately slain when Frieren hit him with a modified version of Zoltraak designed specifically to kill demons.
Relationships
Qual served directly under the Demon King, whose well-being remained his immediate priority upon awakening. He shared a friendly relationship with Macht of El Dorado, the strongest of the Seven Sages of Destruction. The Hero Himmel regarded Qual as an immense threat, personally inspecting the seal annually until near the end of his life. Frieren acknowledges Qual as a true magical genius and one of the rare opponents with lower mana than her own who managed to defeat her in the past.
