Appearance
Kanne has short orange hair styled into twintails with M-shaped bangs that cover her ears, paired with orange eyes. She wears revealing attire consisting of a cropped white short-sleeved top with shoulder, chest, and back cutouts that leaves her navel exposed, dark green short shorts secured with a white belt, white over-the-knee boots, and white bracelets. For casting spells, she carries a long, straight magic staff featuring a three-pronged crystal ornament housing a jewel at its top.
Personality
Kanne has a kind, cheerful, and considerate nature, having grown up surrounded by family affection. At the same time, she is somewhat timid and prone to fear when encountering difficult trials or formidable opponents, though she is the type who thrives and pushes forward when praised. She lacks physical stamina and athletic prowess. Although she constantly bickers with her childhood friend Lawine and often gets physical punishment for careless remarks, she harbors deep trust in Lawine's ability to guide and pull her forward.
Abilities
Kanne uses water manipulation magic (Reamstroha), which allows her to control existing water using mana. She cannot generate water from nothing, nor can she manipulate moisture inside human bodies due to an inability to visualize the distribution and extraction of internal water. However, when supplied with abundant water such as during rain, she can command massive water masses to launch overwhelming attacks capable of defeating higher-ranked mages. She also possesses basic spells including flight magic and defensive magic.
Background
Kanne grew up with Lawine and graduated from the same magic school. During the First-Class Mage Exam in Oysaast, she was assigned to Team 2 alongside Frieren and Lawine for the first stage. When Frieren destroyed the barrier enclosing the exam site to let in the rain, Kanne unleashed her water manipulation spell to defeat the Second-Class Mage Richter, successfully passing the first stage. She also advanced through the second stage's dungeon exploration. However, in the third stage, she failed after becoming terrified by the overwhelming mana of the Great Mage Serie. Following the exam, she saw off Frieren's party and pledged to train for the next examination in three years.
Relationships
Lawine is Kanne's childhood friend and classmate from magic school; despite their frequent bickering and physical squabbles, the two share deep mutual trust. Frieren was her teammate in the first test of the exam, whom Kanne looked up to as a mentor and was delighted to receive praise and head pats from. Richter is a Second-Class Mage whom Kanne fought during the first test and whose clone she subsequently faced in the second test.
Trivia
Her name is derived from the German word "Kanne," meaning pitcher or jug, which corresponds to her water manipulation magic. After the exam, while trying a newly released cat-shaped bread at a bakery in the magic city of Oysaast, she was deeply shocked when Lawine bit off the ear of a rabbit-shaped bread in one go.
