Appearance
He is a man with side-parted brown hair and brown eyes with noticeable sclera. He wears a specialized uniform equipped with a waist belt, scarf, and over-the-knee boots. When using his magic, he manifests black-gold wings on his back.
Personality
Genau comes across as cold, blunt, and pragmatic, willing to accept casualties for the sake of the mission. While he claims to be numb to loss and tragedy, he actually possesses a deep sense of duty and genuine compassion. He willingly puts himself in harm's way to protect the bodies of victims and instinctively tries to shield children. Despite his severe disposition, he has a responsible, cooperative nature that leaves others recognizing his underlying kindness.
Abilities
Genau is a skilled mage adept at close-quarters combat with solid fundamentals. His primary spell, Magic that Wields Black-Gold Wings (Digardnacht), creates material wings on his back that allow for flight, slashes, mid-range projectile attacks, and defense capable of withstanding heavy blade strikes. Additionally, he can cast powerful barrier magic to shield specific structures and areas.
Background
Hailing from the Rufen region in the northern plateau, Genau lost his hometown and his former fighting partner to demons. After overseeing the first stage of the First-Class Mage Exam, he took on a demon subjugation assignment in his homeland, where he confronted the demon general Revolte of the Divine Strike, the enemy responsible for his partner's death. Working alongside allies, he defeated Revolte and completed the mission.
Relationships
Genau serves directly under his master, Serie. He maintains professional ties with fellow mages such as Sense, Falsch, Lernen, and Laufen. During a subjugation mission, he is paired with Methode, tolerating her eccentricities while coordinating effectively. He also collaborates with Frieren, Fern, and Stark, joining forces with Stark in particular to defend a chapel and defeat Revolte.
Trivia
His name, Genau, is derived from the German word meaning 'exactly' or 'precisely.' In an official character popularity poll, he unexpectedly took first place ahead of major main characters.
