Overview
Linie is a demon character from Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. She serves as one of the executioners under Aura the Guillotine, a member of the Seven Sages of Destruction, alongside her fellow demons Lügner and Draht. Despite her young, petite appearance, she has lived for at least 80 years. Operating under Lügner's command, she frequently relies on her exceptional mana perception capabilities during their operations.
Appearance
Linie has a small, slender physique with a pale, expressionless face. She features pink hair styled into voluminous twintails fastened with black hair ribbons, an M-shaped fringe between her eyes, and small demon horns protruding behind her hair. Her eyes are depicted as purple or brown. Her gothic lolita outfit includes a white collared blouse with long puffy sleeves, a brown ribbon at the neck, a brown dress featuring white frills, a cross-laced corset, striped stockings, and mary jane shoes.
Personality
Linie maintains a quiet, detached, and emotionless demeanor. She shows strong obedience and loyalty toward Lügner compared to her peers. A prominent personal quirk is her fondness for apples, which she is frequently seen eating during quiet moments. In battle, she exhibits the typical arrogance of demons, often underestimating her opponent's physical endurance while remaining overly confident in her copied abilities.
Abilities
Linie possesses advanced mana perception skills, enabling her to track and locate targets by reading their mana flow. Her signature magic is Imitation Magic (Air Fazen), which works by memorizing the internal movement of a target's mana to flawlessly replicate their martial maneuvers and combat techniques. She also manifests various physical weapons out of mana, including battleaxes, swords, spears, and daggers. However, her imitation only copies the form of the technique; she cannot replicate the original warrior's physical strength or heavy impact.
Background
Decades prior, Linie observed the warrior Eisen in combat and recorded his fighting techniques using her magic. Twenty-eight years after the hero Himmel's passing, she entered Count Granat's domain alongside Lügner under the guise of peace envoys to weaken the town's protective barrier. When Stark infiltrated the mansion, Linie engaged him in combat, overwhelming him using Eisen's copied style. However, Stark recognized that her strikes lacked the weight of his master's true strength, taking a direct hit to counter and slay her with his ultimate technique.
Relationships
Linie serves under Aura the Guillotine and works directly alongside Lügner and Draht as one of the executioners. She views the dwarf Eisen as the strongest warrior she has ever observed, copying his combat moves. During the confrontation in Count Granat's domain, she fights Eisen's apprentice, Stark, using his master's techniques against him until he overcomes her imitation.
Trivia
Her name 'Linie' is derived from the German word for 'line'. In the official character popularity polls, she initially placed 34th in the first vote and experienced a major surge to 6th place in the second poll following the anime adaptation.
