Overview
Lawine is a Third-Class Human Mage in Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. Introduced during the First Class Mage Exam held in the magic city of Oiharst, she was assigned to Party 2 alongside her childhood friend Kanne and the legendary mage Frieren. Hailing from a wealthy background, she is a headstrong young woman who presents a fiery, boyish demeanor despite her refined origins.
Appearance
Lawine has blue eyes, blunt bangs, and long silver-grey hair styled in a low-tied half-up braid. She dresses in a gothic lolita outfit featuring a white blouse beneath a mid-thigh blue dress with a deep laced V-neck and ruffled hem, paired with a matching frilled blue capelet. Her footwear consists of white high-heeled laced boots. Her attire is also depicted with accessories such as a belt, sun hat, Mary Jane shoes, and a bag.
Personality
Despite her coarse, masculine speech and prickly attitude, Lawine is fundamentally caring and attentive to the feelings of those around her. Though constantly bickering with her childhood friend Kanne, she understands Kanne's hidden effort and pushes her to overcome her weaknesses. While she frequently complains about her doting family, she approaches her duties as a mage with seriousness and sharp perceptiveness.
Abilities
Lawine specializes in ice magic, allowing her to freeze water into solid ice. She utilizes specialized combat spells such as Neftia to forge and launch large, sharp ice arrows at targets, and possesses enough mana control to freeze entire lakes. She is also capable of basic flight and defensive magic. While highly effective when combined with Kanne's water manipulation, her abilities are constrained when external water sources are unavailable.
Background
Raised in a prosperous household in Oiharst alongside three highly capable older brothers and a doting mother, Lawine grew up feeling pressure from comparisons to her siblings. She attended magic school with Kanne, helping her friend overcome her fear of flight through tough love. During the First Class Mage Exam, she utilized her home city's layout and her brother's prior labyrinth intelligence to aid her team.
Relationships
Kanne is Lawine's childhood friend and battle partner, bound by deep mutual trust despite their perpetual squabbling. She respects Frieren's formidable power and reputation as a legendary mage after serving in her exam party. During the exam stages, she formed a tactical alliance with Richter. At home, she receives an overwhelming amount of affection and gifts from her three older brothers.
Trivia
Her name, Lawine, is derived from the German word for 'avalanche,' reflecting her specialization in ice magic. Her family employs servants at their residence in Oiharst, and her brothers frequently buy her stylish clothes and bags whenever they return from the Imperial Capital.
