Overview

Sense is a First-Class Mage belonging to the Continental Magic Association in Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, where she serves as a direct disciple and aide to the great mage Serie. Despite her small, youthful appearance, she is an exceptionally skilled spellcaster entrusted with high-level responsibilities, such as proctoring the Second-Class and First-Class Mage Exams. Although she self-identifies as a pacifist, her examinations are notoriously demanding and hazardous.

Appearance

Sense has a petite, girl-like build with a height roughly equivalent to Frieren's. Her defining feature is her brown hair, which is extraordinarily long and extends all the way down to her feet, with bangs partially covering one eye. She has pink eyes. Her outfit consists of a dress secured with a belt, complemented by a short capelet around her shoulders and a neckcloth.

Personality

Sense maintains a stoic and reserved demeanor, rarely exhibiting overt emotion. She describes herself as a conflict-averse pacifist, yet she applies ruthless standards as an examiner, having conducted past exams where no candidates managed to pass. Around her master Serie, she feels intimidated and often uses her hair to manage Serie's cloak during tense moments. Beneath her calm facade, however, she possesses a humorous side, such as shadowboxing and expressing rare outbursts of frustration toward colleagues she dislikes.

Abilities

Her primary combat power stems from hair manipulation magic, which reinforces her long hair with multiple compound spells. This manipulated hair achieves destructive force capable of slicing solid rock, shattering defensive barriers, and easily piercing human bodies. She excels at aerial combat via flight magic learned from demons, and possesses top-tier mastery over mana detection and concealment. Upon becoming a First-Class Mage, she received a privilege spell from Serie that enables sound sleep. However, her hair magic is completely countered by Ubel's cutting spell, which operates on the absolute mindset that hair is something meant to be cut.

Background

Having served as an examiner on multiple occasions, Sense established a reputation for setting steep requirements. During a past Second-Class Mage Exam, she interrogated Ubel after Ubel killed the proctor Breug, quickly discerning the dangerous nature of Ubel's mindset and spellcraft. For the First-Class Mage Exam in Oisast, she selected the Ruins of the King's Tomb for the second test, entering the dungeon alongside Frieren and Fern while staying neutral. Although a powerful clone of her created by the Water Mirror Demon imperiled the examinees, she monitored the test through to its conclusion. She later took command of an escort detail to safeguard Serie from an assassination plot during an Imperial celebration.

Relationships

She serves the great mage Serie, whom she respects greatly but finds intensely intimidating. She collaborates with fellow First-Class Mages such as Genau, Falsch, and Lernen, often debating exam details with Genau. She views Ubel as her ultimate natural enemy, fully aware that Ubel's magic can bypass her hair's defenses through sheer conviction. Additionally, she closely observes Frieren and Fern, acknowledging their exceptional talent and unorthodox approach to magic.

Trivia

Her name is derived from the German word for scythe. Despite her extraordinarily long hair being her most prominent feature, she privately views its daily maintenance as absolute hell and prefers not to think about it. Her habit of using her hair to hold Serie's cloak has earned her the comedic moniker of a moving coat hanger. Additionally, she has stated that she has never engaged in domestic tasks such as sewing.
