Overview

Solitar is a character from "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End," categorized as a Great Demon without a formal title. Appearing as a polite and gentle young girl, she is a deeply eccentric entity among her kind due to her obsessive research into human nature and human magic. Behind her mild demeanor lies a ruthless killer who has slain every human she ever encountered. Possessing mana capacity on par with the strongest figures in the Demon King's army, she stands out as a highly intelligent and dangerous adversary.

Appearance

Solitar takes the form of a petite young girl featuring a small horn on her forehead. She has long blue-green hair and droopy green eyes. While her mouth maintains a perpetual smile, her eyes remain coldly unexpressive. Her outfit resembles ordinary human attire, consisting of a dress, a necklace, and sandals. When she conceals her horns under a hat, her appearance is virtually indistinguishable from that of a human.

Personality

While presenting herself as polite, friendly, and talkative, Solitar is a cold-blooded and pragmatic predator. Describing herself as cautious, she meticulously avoids unnecessary risks and lacks the usual arrogance found in demons. She exhibits an intense fascination with humanity, engaging victims in casual conversations to probe their emotions and culture before methodically killing them. Although she firmly rejects any possibility of human-demon coexistence as a meaningless delusion, she genuinely respects human adaptability and combat potential.

Abilities

Solitar possesses a massive pool of mana comparable to Frieren and Macht of the Golden Land, along with superior mana control capabilities. Through her extensive study of human magic, she has mastered standard offensive and defensive spells, as well as the analytical skill to unravel complex barrier magic over short periods. In combat, she summons and manipulates countless floating broadswords and fires uncompressed, ultra-dense mana bursts capable of shattering standard magical shields, while also using dense mana armor to protect herself.

Background

Operating from an abandoned coastal shipyard, Solitar spent centuries analyzing human behavior and magical systems, concluding through the Demon King's concept of convergent evolution that coexistence was impossible. Because she killed every human witness, she earned no epithet and remained a "Nameless Great Demon." Decades prior, she escaped a confrontation with Himmel the Hero's party. Later, after studying the defeat of Aura the Guillotine, she deduced Frieren's habit of suppressing her mana. During the crisis in the Golden Land of Weise, she dispelled the city's ancient barrier, ultimately falling in battle against Frieren and Fern.

Relationships

She maintained a long-standing acquaintance with Macht of the Golden Land, sharing her insights on humanity even while disagreeing with his pursuit of coexistence. She drew foundational concepts for her research from the Demon King. Solitar recognized Frieren's hidden strength long before their final showdown in Weise. Over her long life, she also clashed with Himmel the Hero, fought alongside Grausam of Miracles, and faced young warriors like Fern and Stark in battle.

Trivia

Her name, Solitar, derives from the French and German word for "solitary" or "patience/solitaire." Fern's observation regarding her overwhelming "smell of death" became a popular running joke within the fan community. Additionally, her unique facial expression—featuring a wide grin paired with completely unsmiling eyes—has earned her a memorable reputation among fans, who often affectionately describe her as having an oddly charming yet creepy "busakawa" (ugly-cute) appeal.
