Overview
Bazzard Black, commonly known as Bazz-B, is a Quincy from Tite Kubo's manga series BLEACH and its anime adaptation BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War. He is a prominent member of the Wandenreich's elite military unit, the Sternritter, bearing the Schrift designation "H" for "The Heat." Hot-headed, competitive, and wielding immense thermal powers, he secretly joined the organization to exact revenge against its emperor, Yhwach.
Appearance
Bazz-B is defined by his striking red mohawk hairstyle (rendered as deep red, pink, or purple depending on the media) and purple-red eyes (blue in the anime). He wears a nut-shaped earring in his left ear, a bolt-shaped earring in his right ear, and a dark star-shaped pendant around his neck. His outfit resembles a Japanese delinquent jacket, complemented by black gloves and a skull-patterned armband on his right arm. On his feet, he sports slit-topped canvas sneakers.
Personality
Bazz-B is hot-headed, aggressive, and fiercely impulsive, thriving on raw conflict. He takes immense pride in his distinctive mohawk and aesthetic choices, flying into an immediate rage whenever anyone mocks his appearance. Although he favors overwhelming opponents with intense firepower, he remains flexible enough to combine his spirit bow with various techniques. He displays little camaraderie toward his fellow Quincy, showing a ruthless willingness to attack allies behind their backs for personal glory, yet he remains deeply bound by past attachments.
Abilities
Bazz-B wields Quincy capabilities, utilizing a single-handed crossbow-shaped Spirit Bow alongside his Schrift "H," "The Heat." This power allows him to gather Reishi to generate and control extreme thermal energy, capable of offsetting the flames of Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto to mitigate damage. His signature technique, "Burner Finger," scales with used digits: "1" fires a piercing beam from the index finger; "2" shoots explosive twin rays; "3" turns ground into magma; "4" creates a giant blade of fire; and "Burning Full Fingers" unleashes a massive spiral shockwave using all five fingers. He also uses "Burning Stomp" to radiate heat through his feet, vaporizing ice and mist. In his "Quincy Vollständig," a five-pointed star halo appears above his head with rod-like wings on his back, enhancing his output and accuracy.
Background
Born over a thousand years ago as the son of a northern feudal lord, Bazz-B befriended Jugram Haschwalth during youth. After Yhwach burned down his hometown and killed his family, Bazz-B forged a pact with Haschwalth to seek revenge by joining Yhwach's ranks. Years later, when Yhwach selected Haschwalth as his right-hand alter-ego, Bazz-B discovered his own growth was propelled by Haschwalth's innate power-sharing, causing intense envy. He nevertheless joined the Sternritter as "H." During the Thousand-Year Blood War, he fought Soul Reapers until Yhwach targeted him with the Auswählen to strip his Vollständig. Outraged, Bazz-B rebelled alongside other abandoned Quincy, formed a temporary truce with the Soul Reapers, and fought Haschwalth in a fatal final duel.
Relationships
Jugram Haschwalth is Bazz-B's childhood best friend, originally addressing each other by the nicknames "Jugo" and "Bazz." Although Haschwalth's selection as Yhwach's right hand sparked jealousy and conflict, Bazz-B remained deeply attached to him until their final battle. Yhwach is the sworn enemy who destroyed Bazz-B's home; Bazz-B joined the Sternritter solely to kill him and ultimately turned to open rebellion. Renji Abarai shared a similar hot-tempered personality and aesthetic, resulting in fierce banter during combat. Bazz-B also fought Soul Reaper captains like Toshiro Hitsugaya and turned his weapons against fellow Sternritter such as NaNaNa Najahkoop when betrayed.
Trivia
Bazz-B's birthday is July 14, exactly one day before protagonist Ichigo Kurosaki's birthday (July 15). Similarly, Haschwalth's birthday falls one day apart from Uryu Ishida's, underlining their role as dark mirrors to the primary duo. This parallel extends to Bazz-B's real name (Bazzard Black), which shares the element of "black" with Kurosaki. Furthermore, Bazz-B's Schrift "H" and Haschwalth's Schrift "B" inversely correspond to the initial letters of each other's names.
