Overview

Haineko is the Zanpakuto belonging to Rangiku Matsumoto in the manga and anime series BLEACH. In the anime-original Zanpakuto Unknown Tales arc, she manifests in a physical female form that heavily mirrors the personality and traits of her wielder.

Appearance

Haineko appears as a dark-skinned female with green eyes and short hair styled back from her forehead, shaped to resemble cat ears. She also features a cat tail.

Personality

Haineko is selfish, moody, lazy, and somewhat simple-minded, prompting Yumichika Ayasegawa to remark on her striking resemblance to Rangiku Matsumoto. She exhibits a gyaru-like demeanor and speech style, shows an interest in chasing men, and initially disrespects Rangiku by addressing her as an older woman.

Abilities

Released with the command "Growl, Haineko," her blade dissolves into ash. By swinging the hilt, anything covered by this ash is severed. Because the ash itself does not act as a blade, a separate motion of the hilt is required to cut, making it susceptible to being blown away by attacks like Cero. In battle, she has also performed support actions, such as forming walls to assist Toshiro Hitsugaya's ice techniques.

Background

Serving as Rangiku Matsumoto's Zanpakuto, Haineko gained a physical form during the Zanpakuto Unknown Tales arc, initially rebelling against her owner before being brought back under control. Even after returning to her wielder, she maintains her unpredictable and self-centered behavior.

Relationships

Haineko shares a chaotic relationship with her master, Rangiku Matsumoto, who describes her as lazy and selfish. She frequently quarrels and clashes with Tobiume, the materialized Zanpakuto of Momo Hinamori, while occasionally cooperating in battle alongside Toshiro Hitsugaya.

Trivia

The term "Haineko" literally refers to an ash-colored cat or a cat covered in hearth ashes, serving as a seasonal winter word in Japanese as well as an expression for an ingrate.
