Overview
Love Aikawa is a character in the manga and anime series BLEACH. He is the former Captain of the 7th Division of the Gotei 13 and a member of the Visored group. Known for his large physique and distinctive afro hairstyle, he possesses an easygoing and cheerful personality.
Appearance
Standing 189 cm tall and weighing 86 kg, Love has a spiked afro split into multiple distinct points and wears sunglasses paired with a green athletic suit. He carries his Zanpakuto slung diagonally across his back via a shoulder strap. During his time as a Captain 110 years ago, he featured a rounded afro paired with white-framed sunglasses. His Hollow mask takes the form of an oni.
Personality
Love has a carefree and upbeat disposition, frequently laughing out loud. He is an avid reader of manga who often gets inspired by quotes from his favorite stories and has even tried drawing his own comics. He often acts as the blunt counterweight to his peers' theatrical rants. He humorously explains his three-minute Hollowfication limit by referring to himself as a hero.
Abilities
Love possesses immense physical strength, able to swing heavy weapons without losing speed and tear apart a Gillian's head with his bare hands. His Zanpakuto, Tengumaru, transforms into a giant spiked club upon its Shikai release with the command 'Crush down.' It exhibits high durability and allows techniques such as 'Hifuki no Kozuchi,' which swings wide with flames, and 'Kagamibiraki,' a bare-handed tearing move. Having served as a Captain, he has achieved Bankai. He can maintain his Hollowfication for three minutes.
Background
110 years ago, Love was targeted by Sosuke Aizen's experiments, forcing him to flee to the human world along with his fellow Visored. He assisted Ichigo Kurosaki during his Hollowfication training and later joined the battles in Fake Karakura Town against the Arrancar and Aizen. Following the conflict, he declined to return to the Gotei 13 because he preferred remaining in the human world where manga magazines are available. He later assisted Kisuke Urahara and joined battle efforts in the Soul King Palace.
Relationships
Love shares a close dynamic with Rojuro 'Rose' Otoribashi, often reacting bluntly to Rose's artistic speeches by dragging him away by his hair. He participated in the group formed by Hiyori Sarugaki to fix dimensional distortions and provided his spiritual energy to help Kisuke Urahara forge a blade to restore Ichigo Kurosaki's powers.
Trivia
His nickname 'Love' originates directly from the English word for love. Within the story, he expresses a fondness for the famous line 'You are already dead' from the series Fist of the North Star.
