Yammy Llargo is a character from the manga and anime series BLEACH. Serving under Sosuke Aizen as a member of the elite Arrancar group known as the Espada, he initially appears as the 10th Espada. Appearance
Yammy has tanned skin, black hair styled in a ponytail at the back, orange eyebrows, and red facial markings on his cheeks. Two bumps protrude from the sides of his head, a jawbone-shaped Hollow mask remnant rests on his chin, and a Hollow hole is centered in his chest. His left shoulder bears a 10 tattoo. Upon releasing his Zanpakuto, his lower body transforms into a 12-legged creature resembling a scorpion and centipede with elephant-like legs, wearing a red apron, featuring black pegs on his elbows and back, and a hammer-tipped tail. In subsequent transformations, he grows into a 50-meter-tall beast covered in red fur with four horns above his eyes and two massive horns on his back, eventually taking a two-legged furry form with a giant tail.
Personality
Yammy is extraordinarily short-tempered, arrogant, and bloodthirsty. Possessing supreme confidence in his own strength, he harbors deep contempt for the weak, viewing humans as little more than trash and treating weak allies with equal harshness. Despite the general lack of camaraderie among the Arrancar, Yammy maintains a unique dynamic with the calm and analytical Ulquiorra Cifer, frequently exchanging banter with him and secretly respecting his abilities. Additionally, although he constantly yells at and harshly treats his tiny, dog-like Fraccion, Kukkapuro, he never harms or abandons the small creature.
Abilities
Yammy's Resurrección is activated with the command Be enraged to release his Zanpakuto, Ira. Upon release, his rank tattoo alters from 10 to 0, and his body expands massively using anger as its source. While his larger form decreases agility, his physical strength, destructive force, and spiritual energy increase exponentially, with intense anger even regenerating severed limbs and fully healing injuries. His abilities include Gonzui, which inhales the souls of nearby individuals through his mouth, Hierro for armored skin, and Pesquisa for sensing spiritual pressure, though he is unskilled at the latter. He fires devastating Cero blasts from his mouth, rapid-fire Bala bullets traveling twenty times faster than a Cero, and the enhanced Cero Oscuras. By storing energy through eating and sleeping, he releases accumulated power through rage.
Background
Dispatched to Karakura Town alongside Ulquiorra by Sosuke Aizen, Yammy engaged Karakura's defenders, losing his right arm to Ichigo Kurosaki before retreating to Hueco Mundo to have it restored. He later returned to the human world during a secondary assault to fight Toshiro Hitsugaya and Kisuke Urahara, before returning to Las Noches to rest, consume food, and store energy. When Ichigo and his allies invaded Hueco Mundo, Yammy confronted Loly Aivirne and Uryu Ishida before releasing his Zanpakuto against Rukia Kuchiki, Renji Abarai, and Yasutora Sado. Encountering Byakuya Kuchiki and Kenpachi Zaraki, Yammy engaged in a brutal battle against the two Soul Reaper captains, ultimately succumbing to his injuries while his loyal Fraccion, Kukkapuro, stayed by his side.
Relationships
Yammy shares a distinct dynamic with Ulquiorra Cifer; despite their contrasting personalities, they frequently act as partners, with Yammy secretly recognizing and respecting Ulquiorra's strength. His relationship with his Fraccion, Kukkapuro, is characterized by rough treatment on the surface, yet a strong underlying bond exists, as the small Hollow refuses to leave Yammy's side even after his death. As a subordinate to Sosuke Aizen, Yammy serves his master faithfully while clashing fiercely with enemies such as Ichigo Kurosaki—who severed his arm—and the Soul Reaper captains Byakuya Kuchiki and Kenpachi Zaraki.
Trivia
Yammy's name plays on the Japanese word for darkness (yami) as well as connotations of gluttony, while his surname derives from wrath among the Seven Deadly Sins. He is unique among the Espada for being the only member whose tattoo changes its numerical designation upon releasing his Zanpakuto, dropping the 1 to reveal 0. Although Yammy is notoriously poor at sensing spiritual pressure with Pesquisa, he immediately noticed the moment Ulquiorra's spiritual pressure vanished.
