Overview
Senna is the primary heroine and central key person of the animated feature film Bleach: Memories of Nobody. Appearing suddenly in the World of the Living as a mysterious girl identifying as a Soul Reaper, she drives the movie's main narrative. Characterized by her bright and free-spirited demeanor, she frequently drags the protagonist Kurosaki Ichigo into her whims while harboring a tragic secret regarding her true identity. Designed with direct conceptual input from series creator Tite Kubo, she remains one of the most popular anime-original characters in the franchise.
Appearance
Senna features purple hair tied into a ponytail and distinct yellow eyes. Her standard outfit consists of a beige student uniform combined with elements of traditional Japanese attire. Her most signature visual element is her hair ribbon; while she initially wears a yellow ribbon, she later replaces it with a red ribbon purchased at a shopping mall, which serves as her iconic trademark.
Personality
Possessing a cheerful and highly energetic disposition, Senna acts on her impulses and regularly drags Kurosaki Ichigo along on unpredictable detours. Despite her outgoing exterior, she maintains a secretive side, deliberately evading questions about her Soul Reaper squad assignment. Due to holding overlapping memories from numerous individuals, she occasionally exhibits emotional distress when confronted with conflicting recollections. Beneath her playful habits lies a gentle nature capable of profound self-sacrifice.
Abilities
Senna carries a Zanpakuto named Mirokumaru, which grants her the ability to manipulate wind currents. Unlike standard Zanpakuto, her weapon takes the distinct shape of a traditional monk's staff. Its release command is 'Bring it to the twilight, Mirokumaru.' The weapon itself was originally lost decades prior along with its previous owner after being swallowed by a precipitous current within Soul Society's dimensional gateway.
Background
Senna first encounters Kurosaki Ichigo and Kuchiki Rukia in the Human World. In truth, she is not a normal Soul Reaper, but the 'Shinenju'—a collective entity formed from lost memories of wandering souls known as Blanks. Unaware of her real nature, she struggles with conflicting recollections. After being targeted by the villainous Ganryu to force a catastrophic collision between dimensions, she is saved by Kurosaki Ichigo, but ultimately sacrifices herself by releasing her soul energy to stabilize the worlds before fading away.
Relationships
Senna forms a close emotional bond with Kurosaki Ichigo, who patiently deals with her energetic whims and offers her comfort in her final moments. She first interacts with Kuchiki Rukia upon appearing in the World of the Living. Her primary antagonist is Ganryu, who seeks to exploit her power as the Shinenju. Conceptually, her design reflects artistic links to both Abarai Renji and Kuchiki Rukia as envisioned by the series' author.
Trivia
Series author Tite Kubo envisioned Senna's character design as a female counterpart to Abarai Renji, as well as a hypothetical child of Renji and Kuchiki Rukia from an alternate timeline. This concept heavily influenced the visual design of Abarai Ichika in the manga's final chapter, who bears a strong resemblance to Senna. Additionally, her associated lore—the Valley of Screams—was directly referenced in the main manga's Thousand-Year Blood War arc, establishing her lasting impact on the canon universe.
