Overview
Jugram Haschwalth is a major character in BLEACH, serving as the Grandmaster of the Sternritter and the chief counselor to Emperor Yhwach within the Wandenreich. Functioning as the second-in-command of the Quincy army, he directs military operations and attends directly to the Emperor, inheriting Yhwach's power and authority while the ruler sleeps.
Appearance
He is a tall, slender young man with long, smooth blonde hair reaching down his back and long eyelashes. He wears a double-breasted white Quincy military coat featuring a left collar decorated with green fur and a shoulder guard on his left side. Sheathed at his left hip is a western-style longsword adorned with a scale motif and a round emblem marked with the letter B. He also carries the Freund Schild, a shield bearing a yellow star-cross and inverted pentagram design.
Personality
Haschwalth maintains a stoic, unflappable demeanor, rarely displaying emotion. His devotion to Yhwach is absolute, driving him to execute commands with strict efficiency. While he acts with cold impartiality toward fellow Sternritter and enforces discipline firmly, he avoids needless violence against weaker foes. Beneath his harsh exterior, he quietly accepts the consequences of his choices, holding a belief that one must walk their chosen path without giving in to futile regret.
Abilities
Lacking the ability to construct a Quincy spirit bow, he relies on master-level swordsmanship using his longsword, capable of snapping a Bankai weapon in a single blow. His designated Schrift B, The Balance, allows him to redistribute misfortune and good fortune within his vicinity to maintain equilibrium. Through his signature Freund Schild, he absorbs any misfortune or damage he receives and channels it back onto opponents as extra damage. When Yhwach sleeps, Haschwalth temporarily gains access to Schrift A, The Almighty, granting him high-precision future vision. He is also adept at Quincy techniques such as Hirenkyaku, constructing Shadow Realms, and generating a key to enter the Soul King Palace.
Background
Born a thousand years ago in the human realm, Haschwalth suffered abuse from his uncle until meeting Bazz-B during a hunt. Unable to gather spiritual particles or form bows, he nevertheless trained alongside Bazz-B after Yhwach destroyed their hometown. However, Yhwach identified Haschwalth as his rare spiritual half—a Quincy who distributes power rather than absorbs it—and recruited him directly, separating him from Bazz-B. Ascending to the rank of Sternritter Grandmaster, Haschwalth spearheaded invasions into Soul Society and the Soul King Palace before ultimately dying when Yhwach revoked his power via Auswählen.
Relationships
He serves Emperor Yhwach with absolute obedience as his loyal right hand and spiritual half. Bazz-B was his childhood friend, but their contrasting choices turned them into enemies who eventually fought to the death. He maintains a watchful eye over Uryu Ishida after the youth is named Yhwach's successor, leaving Uryu with poignant final words before his death. Despite his stern leadership, he secretly instructed his female aide to ensure the survival of fellow Sternritter members such as Bambietta's group.
Trivia
His Schrift letter B mirrors the Schrift H of his former friend Bazz-B, reflecting their intertwined initials. The name of his shield, Freund Schild, translates from German as Friend's Shield, reflecting his broken bond with Bazz-B. Furthermore, his birthday on November 5 falls just one day apart from that of Uryu Ishida.
