Distinctive for his heavy Hiroshima regional accent, he is defined by his strong sense of honor, loyalty, and chivalrous spirit.
Appearance
Iba has a muscular build, a mustache, and always wears black sunglasses. He features a prominent back tattoo depicting a flaming cat alongside the text for inviting good fortune. After taking over as Captain, he sports a pronounced scar on the right side of his forehead and adopts a pompadour haircut. His unreleased sword resembles a short yakuza-style blade concealed inside his uniform.
Personality
Despite his intimidating outward look and combative streak, Iba is deeply honorable and cares for his allies. He harbors a strong ambition to rise through the ranks to honor his family, yet displays steadfast devotion to his superiors. Beneath his rough exterior lies a responsible demeanor, though he is frequently pushed around by members of the Women's Association and holds a quiet crush on Rangiku Matsumoto.
Abilities
Iba maintains a balanced combat style, having thoroughly mastered blade combat, hand-to-hand fights, high-speed movement, and kido spells equally. When his weapon enters its Shikai form, it turns into a broad, guardless blade featuring a dark branch-like blade protruding near the middle section of the main edge. Upon releasing the weapon, it produces a heavy blanket of fog.
Background
Raised by his mother who formerly held the position of 3rd Division Lieutenant, Iba originally started his career in the combative 11th Division. Recognizing that versatility would better aid his advancement to comfort his family, he transferred to the 7th Division. Following Sajin Komamura's departure from duty, Iba assumed the position of Captain, maintaining rigorous daily training to guide the squad forward.
Relationships
He maintains absolute loyalty toward his former superior Sajin Komamura, continuing to show deep respect even after taking over his command. He shares a close camaraderie with his former squadmate Ikkaku Madarame, with whom he frequently drinks and spars, while remaining firm when calling him out on combat choices. He is also connected to his mother Chikane Iba and holds affection for Rangiku Matsumoto.
Trivia
He shows a distinct culinary preference by disliking Osaka-style savory pancakes in favor of Hiroshima-style ones. Collecting sunglasses is his primary hobby, and he frequently spends his days off visiting specialized eyewear shops to examine the newest releases.
