Overview
Orihime Inoue is one of the main heroines of BLEACH and a student at Karakura High School. As a classmate of the protagonist, Ichigo Kurosaki, she harbors deep and unwavering romantic feelings for him. Despite enduring a difficult background, she remains a bright and compassionate presence. Possessing a unique spiritual capability called Shun Shun Rikka, which governs event rejection, she actively steps into battles to support and protect her friends.
Appearance
Orihime is a young woman with long orange hair, parted bangs, and noticeably large breasts. Her eyes are orange in the manga and the Thousand-Year Blood War anime, though they were depicted as grayish-blue in the original anime series. She wears a pair of blue hairpins shaped like six-petaled flowers. In the Lost Agent arc, her hair takes on soft waves with longer bangs. During the Thousand-Year Blood War, her combat attire features a sleeveless, cropped white top with a cleavage cutout, detached sleeves, and a long white skirt.
Personality
Orihime is gentle, peaceful, and fiercely loyal, characterized by an airheaded, highly imaginative, and eccentric temperament. Although she possesses bizarre culinary tastes, combining unconventional ingredients, she ranks near the top of her grade academically and is surprisingly athletic. She demonstrates immense empathy, often attempting to heal both allies and opponents, and develops remarkable fortitude and emotional growth throughout her journey.
Abilities
Orihime commands Shun Shun Rikka, a Fullbring-style ability manifested through her hairpins. By invoking distinct spirits named after flowers, she rejects phenomena via willpower and incantations. Her powers excel in defense and healing, notably through Santen Kesshun for shielding, Shiten Koshun for counter-defending, and Santen Kishun, an absolute restoration technique that reverts any damage or change to a prior state by rejecting its occurrence.
Background
Orihime fled a abusive home with her older brother, Sora, when she was three years old. After Sora tragically died in a car accident during her middle school years, she began living alone supported by a distant relative and part-time jobs. She endured severe bullying in middle school due to her distinct hair, but formed a strong bond with Tatsuki Arisawa. Her spiritual awakening was triggered by her affection for Ichigo and her desire to protect her friends.
Relationships
Orihime harbored a long-standing romantic devotion toward Ichigo Kurosaki, whom she eventually marries, later giving birth to their son, Kazui. Tatsuki Arisawa is her closest friend who protected her from bullying in middle school. Her late brother, Sora Inoue, served as her parental guardian during childhood. She also maintains tight bonds of friendship and trust with Rukia Kuchiki, Uryu Ishida, and Yasutora Sado.
Trivia
Author Tite Kubo officially designated Orihime as the heroine of the series. An animated scene of her spinning a leek purchased from a grocery store served as the original source for the famous internet culture phenomenon known as the 'Leekspin' meme.
