Overview
Feitan Portor is a major supporting character in the manga and anime series HUNTER×HUNTER. He is one of the founding senior members of the Phantom Troupe, holding the membership number 2. Hailing from Meteor City, he operates as a Transmuter-type Nen user. Within the infamous thief band, he primarily serves as a front-line combatant and standard interrogator.
Appearance
Feitan is a short male character with short black hair and black eyes. He wears dark, long-sleeved clothing paired with a mouth-covering scarf featuring a skull pattern print. He carries a katana concealed within a red umbrella that features a built-in launcher mechanism at its tip.
Personality
Feitan has a sadistic, cold, and dark disposition, taking pleasure in battle and merciless interrogation methods. He speaks in a fragmented manner, omitting certain structural words during casual conversation, but shifts to an unknown native tongue when enraged. Though irritable and cold-blooded toward enemies, he abides by internal Troupe rules to resolve disputes among members.
Abilities
Feitan is a skilled swordsman and Transmuter. His primary Nen ability, Pain Packer, triggers when he takes damage, absorbing physical trauma to unleash retaliatory attacks. Upon activation, it Conjures a full protective suit that shields him from his own output. Its revealed form, Rising Sun, transforms his aura into a miniature sun that radiates extreme heat, incinerating everything in the surrounding area.
Background
Originating from the lawless Meteor City, Feitan helped establish the Phantom Troupe alongside its original core. He participates in major Troupe operations, including the Yorknew City auction massacre and the retrieval of the Greed Island game console. During the Chimera Ant crisis, he returns to his homeland to defeat the Squadron Leader Zazan, briefly taking charge of the Troupe's actions.
Relationships
Feitan frequently teams up with fellow Phantom Troupe member Phinks Magcub, with whom he shares a close working dynamic. He also works alongside Nobunaga Hazama and Franklin Bordeaux during Troupe operations. Conversely, he harbors a clear dislike toward Hisoka Morow.
Trivia
Feitan's visual design and rapid sword-based fighting style draw creative inspiration from Hiei, a major character in the author's earlier work YuYu Hakusho. The unintelligible language he speaks when enraged is rendered in animated adaptations by reversing standard Japanese dialogue.
