Kurapika is one of the primary protagonists of HUNTER×HUNTER. Appearance
Kurapika is a young man of androgynous appearance with short blonde hair featuring bangs between his eyes. He wears earrings in both ears, typically obscured by his hair. His eyes are naturally gray or brown, but shift into a brilliant crimson "Scarlet Eyes" state when experiencing strong emotions. To conceal this trait in public, he later wears black contact lenses. His traditional outfit consists of a blue Kurta tabard trimmed in reddish hues over a white shirt, white pants, and blue flat shoes. On his right hand, he wears rings linked to conjured chains. In later story arcs, he switches to a tailored black suit with a black tie and a slightly modified hairstyle. He has also successfully disguised himself as a woman.

Abilities
Kurapika is a Conjurer who shifts to a Specialist when his Scarlet Eyes are active. Even prior to acquiring Nen, he possessed remarkable agility and mastery over paired wooden swords. His primary combat style utilizes five conjured chains on his right hand:
Holy Chain (Thumb): Accelerates self-healing to repair severe injuries rapidly.
Steal Chain (Index Finger): Drains target aura to induce a Zetsu-like state and steal their Nen ability, which can be analyzed and used via a stealth dolphin entity.
Chain Jail (Middle Finger): Restrains targets in forced Zetsu; bound by a strict Vow to use it only against Phantom Troupe members upon penalty of death.
Dowsing Chain (Ring Finger): Performs dowsing for tracking, lie detection, and bullet defense.
Judgment Chain (Little Finger): Pierces a target's heart to enforce rules, destroying it if violated.

Background
Kurapika grew up in a secluded village within the Lukso Province as a member of the Kurta Clan. Eager to explore the world outside, he earned the right to leave after completing rigorous tests set by the clan elders. Shortly after his departure, the Phantom Troupe invaded his village to harvest the clan's legendary Scarlet Eyes, brutally slaughtering all 128 inhabitants and selling their eyes on the black market. As the sole survivor of the massacre, Kurapika dedicated his existence to recovering every pair of stolen eyes and seeking vengeance against the Phantom Troupe. He took and passed the 287th Hunter Examination, mastered Nen under formal instruction, and subsequently aligned himself with mafia organizations to locate his clan's remains and confront the Troupe.
Relationships
Kurapika forms a deep bond of friendship with Gon Freecss, Killua Zoldyck, and Leorio Paradinight during the Hunter Examination. He particularly shares a close, trusting relationship with Leorio. Kurapika prioritizes their safety above all else, often attempting to distance himself to protect them from the dangers of his revenge. Chrollo Lucilfer and the Phantom Troupe are his sworn arch-enemies responsible for the Kurta genocide. Kurapika relentlessly pursues them, resulting in fatal clashes with members like Uvogin and the sealing of Chrollo's Nen abilities.
